Axford and Murphy's Story

Inseparable Brothers Axford and Murphy
2 yr 15 lb and 3 yr 10 lb, Non Shed, Rancho Santa Margarita CA

Meet Axford and Murphy, an inseparable, sweet-as-can-be duo looking for their forever home together. These two small boys are the perfect definition of a package deal, balancing each other out beautifully with their contrasting but complementary personalities. Axford is the brave, outgoing social butterfly, while Murphy is the gentle, shy soul who relies on his brother to show him the ropes and help build his confidence. Together, they make a wonderful, entertaining, and deeply affectionate pair.

Axford is a sweet, three-year-old, 10-pound poodle mix with a charming little snaggletooth. He absolutely never meets a stranger and treats every human he sees as a potential best friend, happily begging for pets and rolling over for belly rubs. Axford is medium energy and loves to be on the go. He adores his multiple daily walks, car rides, and looking out the window at the world. He is a quick, food-motivated learner who already knows sit and is working on stay and down. Axford is very sweet but can be demanding when it comes to wanting attention, and he will proudly hop up on his back legs to make sure you notice him.

Murphy is a sweet, two-year old, 15-pound Havanese mix who is still coming out of his shell and learning how to be a house dog. He is a very affectionate, long-limbed boy who transforms into a total snuggle bug once he feels safe. Murphy is naturally shy and cautious around new people or loud noises, but he gets much braver when he sees his brother Axford or his humans handling a situation with confidence. He loves his daily walks, but he is also a major fan of napping, lounging in a quiet corner, and resting his head right on your pillow at bedtime like a little person.

The bond between these brothers is truly heartwarming. They love to play chase around the house, playfully trading their favorite toys back and forth. Murphy uses his slightly larger size to his advantage during playtime, but he is always gentle and never plays too hard. When playtime is over, you can find them curled up together, with Murphy giving Axford sweet kisses and grooming him while they nap. One thing they completely agree on is toys: both boys are absolute power chewers who adore durable chew toys and love to meticulously tear apart soft plushies.

Both Axford and Murphy are house-trained and leash-trained. They have marked inside their foster home, so a consistent routine or continued guidance will help them settle into a new environment. Belly bands are an easy option while they are learning. When meeting new people and dogs on walks, Axford gets so excited that he barks and hops on his back legs, while Murphy barks in excitement but initially shies away until a few patient meetings help him warm up. Neither boy has been tested with cats, but they are great with other dogs and do wonderfully at the dog park. They are also good around children, though Axfords enthusiastic face-licking and jumping might be a bit much for very small toddlers.

Neither dog is crate-trained; they both sleep peacefully right in the human bed at night. While Murphy is completely relaxed when left alone, Axford does experience some separation anxiety and will scratch at the door for a short while before settling down by his brother's side. Because Axford needs someone around to reassure him and Murphy thrives on a predictable routine, their ideal home is a medium-to-high energy household with a family who works from home or is retired. They need an active environment where they can enjoy two to three daily walks, a sunny spot to relax, and humans with plenty of time, patience, and love to give this very special pair.

Axford and Murphy are both healthy, neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. They are ready to find a forever home where they can stay side-by-side forever. If that home might be with you, we are now accepting adoption applications for them together. https://bichonrescuebrigade.org/adopt/adoption-form/
