Avis loves people!

They are by far her most favorite thing in the world.

She also loves car rides, treats and long naps with lots of snoring involved!

With as generous as she is with people, she is not so fond of other dogs.

We've seen her be comfortable with some dogs, but we think she prefers to be the one and only.

Avis was in a prior home for 6 months, but she broke away due to a loose harness and went after another dog.

For this reason, Avis will do best in a home with a securely fenced yard.

Additionally, Avis should not be walked unless she has a good-fitting harness and a fit handler.

This gal may have a little grey on the muzzle, but boy is she strong!

We know just how amazing Avis is and we wish everyone else could see it too.

She is our unofficial mascot for our NHES Humane Education programs in local schools.

Where Avis is a favorite with the kids and seems to enjoy her role as a furry ambassador.

The National Humane Education Society’s Adoption Program is a result of over 60 years’ experience of working with companion animals and the adopting public. Our primary goal is to place animals in loving homes while providing support to make the transition from shelter to home as easy and rewarding for both our pets and the adopters! Our adoption staff is looking forward to helping you find a pet who will bring you years of unconditional love. All dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered and have received their necessary immunizations. As a part of our process, we select the “best fit” for our animals. Please note that we do not offer same-day adoptions. Adoption Fees are displayed on each animal’s information page. To begin our adoption process, please come by, fill out respective cat or dog application forms, or call 304-724-6558 to speak to an adoption counselor at the Briggs Animal Adoption Center.
