Our Mission

BAAC is the incarnation of Mr. and Mrs. Briggs’ guiding philosophy that “each and every animal has intrinsic value and deserves to be treated accordingly—with kindness, compassion and respect." Therefore, our stewardship includes sanctity for their individual lives, and we will not participate in the killing of one animal in order to ‘make room’ for another animal. But rather, we will remain committed to each animal that comes into our care until an appropriate home can be found, because this is part of the humane solution to ending animal suffering.” BAAC is a program of The National Humane Education Society (NHES), a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization founded in 1948. To learn more about NHES, please visit www.nhes.org.

Adoption Policy

The National Humane Education Society’s Adoption Program is a result of over 60 years’ experience of working with companion animals and the adopting public. Our primary goal is to place animals in loving homes while providing support to make the transition from shelter to home as easy and rewarding for both our pets and the adopters! Our adoption staff is looking forward to helping you find a pet who will bring you years of unconditional love. All dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered and have received their necessary immunizations. As a part of our process, we select the “best fit” for our animals. Please note that we do not offer same-day adoptions. Adoption Fees are displayed on each animal’s information page. To begin our adoption process, please come by, fill out respective cat or dog application forms, or call 304-724-6558 to speak to an adoption counselor at the Briggs Animal Adoption Center.
