Avalon's Story

Avalon is a 4-year-old (DOB 2/22/22) Tibetan Mastiff who has already proven she's a survivor. When she arrived in HHP rescue, she was heartbreakingly underweight at just 70 pounds (she should be well over 100!) and was buried under a mountain of mats. After numerous much-needed spa days and many courses of good groceries, she's well on her way to becoming the magnificent fluffy bear she was always meant to be.

Like many Tibetan Mastiffs, Avalon is intelligent, independent, and occasionally convinced that her ideas are better than yours. She's looking for someone who understands that earning the trust of a Mastiff is much more rewarding than trying to out-stubborn one!

Avalon is searching for a home with an experienced large-breed owner who appreciates these amazing dogs for exactly who they are. She'll need a securely fenced yard with a 6-foot fence, because squirrels, rabbits, and other neighborhood wildlife are simply too tempting to ignore. Her prey drive also means she's not a good match for cats or small dogs.

She does enjoy the company of other large dogs with compatible personalities after a proper introduction. In fact, having a confident canine buddy nearby helps ease some of her separation anxiety. She would do best in a home with children 10 years and older who understand how to respectfully interact with a giant breed.

Avalon is a smart girl who thrives on consistency, structure, patience, and positive guidance. Give her clear expectations, lots of love, and a family committed to helping her continue building confidence, and you'll be rewarded with a loyal companion who will stand by your side through thick and thin.

If you're looking for an easy, carefree dog, Avalon probably isn't your girl. But if you're looking for a majestic best friend with a heart as big as she is—and you're ready to help her write the next chapter of her story—you just might have found your perfect match.

Please visit www.handsheartspaws.org for an adoption application

All of our dogs are current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, fecal tested, heartworm tested, and they are all on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

The adoption process is an application, a vet reference, a home visit, and a lifetime contract. The requested adoption donation for this dog is $600___.

We do not REQUIRE a fenced in yard (some dogs DO REQUIRE a fence. Decide what is best for each dog), we do REQUIRE a means of safe outside containment. We do NOT adopt to homes that use invisible fencing. Invisible fencing is NOT a safe means of outside containment.

We are willing to adopt out-of-state, contingent on our ability to complete a home visit, but you must travel to Omaha to complete the adoption. We do not transport or ship our dogs
