Augie's Story

**AUGIE: PLEASE DO NOT PET THE DOG**

Augie is a 4-year-old French Bulldog, and this is his anti-marketing bio.

When you first meet Augie, he will be wearing a muzzle. This is not because he looks cute in it. It is because, if given the opportunity, he may bite you.

You are new. Augie does not trust you. He also believes the shelter workers he loves need protection from suspicious strangers like you. Please do not take it personally. Augie doesn't want to meet new people, and we are not going to force him to.

Augie is looking for a very specific home:

Ideally, he would live with one person and no other animals. He can physically be around other pets, but he cannot successfully live with them long-term. Once Augie claims his person, he is likely to guard them from the other animals in the home. He has previously lived successfully with two women who shared his care and responsibilities, so a carefully structured two-person home may also be considered.

Visitors are not Augie's friends. When people come over, Augie should be comfortably secured in his crate or a separate room with a toy or enrichment activity. He does not need to greet your guests, attend your parties, or participate in family gatherings.

Outside the home, Augie needs a minimum ten-foot bubble around him. No strangers approaching. No surprise petting. No "all dogs love me." No children running up to say hello. Augie does not want to meet people, and his handler must be comfortable firmly advocating for his space.

The good news? After a couple of days in the home, Augie will likely decide that you are his entire world. He will become your best friend, your shadow, and your extremely opinionated little protector.

Augie is crate-trained and has been house-trained. He thrives with predictable routines, clear boundaries, responsible management, and people who understand that loving a dog does not mean making him tolerate situations he finds frightening or uncomfortable.

We do not expect Augie to become a social butterfly. We do not force Augie to do things Augie does not want to do. His future person must be willing to accept him as he is and manage him safely for the rest of his life.

Augie is not an easy dog. He is not appropriate for most homes. But for the right person-someone experienced, realistic, committed, and perfectly happy having one tiny best friend who hates everyone else-Augie may be exactly the dog they've been looking for.
