Looking for a cuddle bug? Meet Athena!<br/><br/>Athena is a 6-year-old, 40-pound red merle Australian Shepherd with a docked tail and a heart of gold. Her foster mom describes her as a complete sweetheart, and it’s easy to see why!<br/>Athena is a lower-energy girl who is happiest when she can relax near her people. One of her favorite places is perched on top of the couch, where she can keep an eye on everything while enjoying plenty of cuddles and pets from her foster mom. Like a true Aussie, Athena loves to follow her people from room to room because she just wants to be wherever you are.<br/><br/>Athena is a little nervous and will need a quiet home and patient people who understand that confidence takes time to build. Once she feels comfortable, she is incredibly affectionate and would happily spend her days soaking up attention. Her ideal family will be willing to give her the time and encouragement she needs to come out of her shell and discover just how wonderful she is.<br/><br/>Athena is indifferent to the energetic resident Aussie in her foster home, so she could thrive as an only dog or with a calm, easygoing dog who isn't overly playful. She does show a strong interest in the resident cat, so a home without a cat is preferred. Athena would also do well with older children who can respect her space and allow her to settle in at her own pace.<br/><br/>If your idea of the perfect dog is one who wants to curl up beside you, follow you around the house, and happily accept all the cuddles and pets you’re willing to give, Athena might be your girl.
