****Please do not message the rescue asking if this dog is still available; if a dog/puppy is still listed on Petfinder, we are still accepting applications for them. PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE EMAILING****

***Only applicants over 25 years of age will be considered.***

Athena was taken in by a very kind husband and wife, in a rural area of Texas, where there is no help for homeless animals. With there being no local animal shelter, The couple took in over 40 dogs to keep them from starving on the streets. When the husband passed away and his wife fell ill, SNARR NE was asked to help out with the placement of the dogs.

Athena will steal your heart! She has a beautiful brindle coat, almost tiger stripes on her rump, and the most beautiful pale eyes that look deeply into yours, but her outside is not at all as beautiful as her personality. She is almost 2 years old, but frequently seems more mature. She loves running up and down stairs, taking them 2 and 3 at time. She chews a little, but she’s happy to stick to the chew toys. She enjoys taking toys into her kennel to sniff and lay with them. She’ll hop around bouncing toys, but she doesn’t pick them up and bring them back to you yet. She enjoys meals and will wander to other dogs’ bowls, but she’s never aggressive. Her favorite treat is Milk Bone. She’ll use her paw to get your attention and wants to please you. She’s gentle and would be good with children, but her paws are strong and could knock a little one down. Because she’s gentle and shy, aggressive dogs would be stressful for her. She is almost house-trained. She’s learned to walk on leash wonderfully, but she’s frightened by fast moving loud vehicles. And she’s learned to use the doggy door. She enjoys the freedom of the dog park, but will keep you in sight. She’s fearful of getting into cars, but once she’s there, she enjoys the ride. She’s sweet to other dogs she knows, but she is shy around new dogs. When she wants to play and the other dog doesn’t, she doesn’t force the situation. She’s terrific at entertaining herself or sleeping most of the day in or out of her kennel, but when the evening comes, she’ll come paw you or crawl up next to you to get some affection. At night, she’ll sleep on the carpeted floor for a while, then hop up on the foot of the bed. If you wake during the night, she’ll notice, but leave you alone. If you wave to her, she’ll move closer and snuggle nose to nose as long as you’re petting her. When you fall asleep again, she’ll go back to the foot of the bed. Unlike some dogs, she sleeps as long as you do, not needing to go outside until you get up (but very soon after that)

FAQs -- PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE EMAILING
-------------------------------------------------------
**Please note that SNARR NE is a volunteer-based organization. While our volunteers will try to respond to you as quickly as possible, it is helpful if you review the following information about our adoption process before emailing:**

- LISTED BREED(S) & AGE: We are taking our best guess on age, breed, and size when fully grown, based on the puppy's/dog's physical appearance and what we might have learned about one or both parents depending on the situation. *NOTE* We rarely know a dog's exact age, nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. Because we often do not have access to medical records at the time that we are posting dogs to Petfinder, there are sometimes discrepancies between what is posted on Petfinder and what might be listed on a dog's medical records.

- SNARR'S ADOPTION PROCESS: The first step in adopting or meeting a SNARR dog/puppy is to fill out an application at www.snarrnortheast.org/applications. Once we receive your application, one of our adoption application processors will contact you, review our adoption process with you, and answer any additional questions you may have. **We do not go on a first-come-first-serve basis for adoptions, but on best fit for a family and most importantly the puppy or dog.**

- MEETING ADOPTABLE DOGS: Meet and greets will not be scheduled until after your adoption application has been fully processed by one of our adoption processors.

- APPLYING ONLINE: If you fill out an online application, please do so from a computer (not a mobile device), make sure you answer ALL the questions in as much detail as possible, and that you receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, that means we did NOT receive your application.

- PUPPIES: We do suggest listing a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice on your application if applying for a puppy with several litter mates.

- ADOPTION FEES: $495 for puppies / $375 for adults. Adoption Fees for Seniors, Special Needs and Bonded Pairs vary
