Athena's Story

About Athena
Athena is a 90lbs, 3-year-old Pit Bull/American Bulldog mix with a big heart, bright mind, and a whole lot of love to give. She came into our care in February after the heartbreaking passing of her owner, and despite her sweet nature and playful spirit, she is still waiting for someone to notice her. While she has made many friends with staff and volunteers, she has yet to receive any serious adoption interest, something that feels especially unfair for such a loving girl.

Athena is people-oriented, affectionate, and full of youthful energy. She loves meeting new people and lights up when she's out and about, enjoying walks, adventures, and time spent engaging with her humans. She is still very much a young, enthusiastic dog who is eager to explore the world and be part of an active, loving home.

Training & Support
Athena is highly food-motivated and responds very well to training, making her an eager and enjoyable partner to work with. She does display mild resource guarding with high-value toys and chews, which can be managed through consistent routines, clear structure, and avoiding known triggers in the home. While Athena walks well on leash overall, she does have a prey drive and, due to her size and strength, can become a strong puller at times. Continued leash training and reinforcement of loose-leash walking will help her succeed. Athena is intelligent, engaged, and motivated to work with her people, making her an excellent candidate for ongoing training, bonding, and continued growth in her next home.

Ideal Home
Athena would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention for herself. She enjoys meeting and interacting with other friendly, compatible dogs while out and about, especially social males, but she is not suited to living with other animals.

Due to her strength and enthusiasm, Athena is best suited to an adult-only home where expectations and boundaries can be consistent. She is affectionate, fun-loving, and thrives when given structure, activity, and companionship.
Athena has so much love to give and is ready for a fresh start after a difficult loss. She has been patiently waiting since February for someone to see her for who she truly isa loyal, joyful companion ready to finally go home.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready to Apply?

If you would like to meet Athena, please download an application from our website at:

vancouver.ca/adoption-form

Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca

If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Children: No
Cats: No
Dogs: Needs to be the only dog in the house. Can play with compatible dogs outdoors.
Training Needs: Socialization with dogs
Adoption Fee: $391

If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.

For more information on our adoption process, go to vancouver.ca/adopt
