Athena's Story

About Athena
Athena is a three‑year‑old Pit Bull/American Bulldog cross with a heart as big as her smile. This wonderful mix is known for loyalty, intelligence, and affection—and Athena embodies all of it. During the two months she has been in our care, she has shown herself to be an incredibly loving, people‑oriented girl who truly adores human companionship.
Athena loves everyone she meets and greets new people with full‑body wiggles, happy energy, and a desire to be close. She is extremely affectionate and thrives on belly rubs, cuddles, pets, and playtime with her people. Whether she’s leaning in for love or trotting alongside you on a walk, Athena is happiest when she’s part of the action.

Training & Support
Athena is a smart, eager learner who responds beautifully to positive, reward‑based training. She is very food‑motivated and enjoys working with her humans, which makes training both effective and fun. She walks very well on leash and, while she can pull at times due to her size and excitement, she generally walks politely and enjoys calmly observing dogs and people passing by.
On walks, Athena is rarely reactive and prefers to take in her surroundings rather than engage. She has shown some mild resource guarding with high‑value chews and toys, which is not uncommon and has been manageable with structure, clear routines, and positive reinforcement.

Ideal Home
Athena would love a home that enjoys being active together—going for walks, exploring outdoors, or engaging in fun training sessions. She has a lovely balance of playful energy and affectionate downtime, making her a great match for someone who wants both adventure and snuggles.
While Athena would prefer to be the only dog in the home, she is capable of having dog friends and does best with friendly male dogs. Athena would thrive in a home with older children who can respect her space and size.
Athena is truly a people‑lover at heart—devoted, affectionate, and full of joy. She is ready to pour all of her love into a family willing to give her the chance she deserves.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready to Apply?

If you would like to meet Athena, please download an application from our website at:

vancouver.ca/adoption-form

Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca

If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Children: No
Cats: No
Dogs: Needs to be the only dog in the house.
