Ashley

The MexiMutt Project is an initiative of Born Again Pit Bull Rescue. Millions of dogs live on the streets in Mexico, and our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, medical care, and adoption into loving homes.
- Since 2019, we have matched over 500 dogs with loving homes & spayed/neutered over 3,500 dogs in Mexico.
- All of our dogs are currently in foster care in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are listed in Oregon for adoption purposes because our rescue is based there.
- Once an adoption is approved, the dog will fly to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Most dogs arrive within 2-4 weeks after approval, depending on flight availability.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived outdoors, they'll need some time to adjust. Most adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.
- The breed listed is our best guess (since they're rescues!)

She was in the middle of a busy avenue, running with no direction, while cars swerved around her. Nine pounds of terrified dog in four lanes of traffic. Our foster Mayra got her out of there before her luck ran out.

The strangest part was how good she looked. Clean coat, healthy weight, none of the wear you see on a dog who has been on her own for long. "We were sure someone was missing her," Mayra says. We searched for the owner, but nobody ever came.

Ashley kept her distance at first. She would take food, then retreat. She watched from across the room for a while before deciding this house was safe, and then, quietly, she settled in.

Now she asks for what she wants. She will sit beside you and reach out with one small paw, tapping your arm, and if you stop petting her the paw comes back. "She keeps her little paw on you until you give in," Mayra says. "It works every time."

She is a calm dog with a calm dog's routine. Her favorite thing in the world is a walk, and she takes it seriously: no darting, no pulling, just a steady trot out front like she knows exactly where you are both going. The rest of the day she spends near her person, content to simply be in the same room.

Here is the honest part. Ashley wants to be someone's whole world, and she wants to be theirs. She is particular about her space and does not care for pushy dogs in it. That does not mean she has to be alone: a calm, easygoing housemate who lets her be is something she can live with happily. It is the ones who crowd her that she has no patience for. She is also not a match for a home with cats.

She is fully house-trained, quiet, and easy to live with. She would do beautifully as an only dog, or as the second dog in a low-key house, with someone who has plenty of lap and plenty of time.

If you are looking for one small, devoted shadow to follow you from room to room, could Ashley be yours?

*************************
Ready to apply?
