Arfie's Story

Arfie, what's it all about? Arfie is an funny and adorable 7.3 pound 3 year old Miniature Dachshund mix.

He is fostered in Linn County, OR, about an hour from Sisters, Eugene, Corvallis, Salem. About 2 from Newport and Portland. We will meet partway for folks driving from afar.

Arfie is cuddly, loves a good nap, and enjoys being warm, napping in a lap or by the wood stove. He enjoys walks, the yard, car rides, food and squeaky toys.

Like many of his Dachshund brethren, he is quiet with people and dogs he knows, but will bark at new guests, when in the car, and when he on walks in new densely populated areas..

Arfie is doing well on his house training, about 80% or better. He was just neutered and is currently wearing a belly band, so we expect he will accomplish 100% as his testosterone level subsides and he continues his potty training routine.

Arfie has had a hard past. He was removed from his mom and littermates too young. He was muzzled in one home, though has never bitten in rescue or at the vets. He was abandoned by another set of owners and was found starving in a field. He has a permanent scar from an ill fitting muzzle.

He is neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and de-wormed. His adoption fee is $460.

Given Arfie's past, we think it best if he has an adult only family. Dog savvy and gentle teens are fine. Arfie has no cat experience and he killed chickens when he was stray and starving.

A great home and must haves for this boy include:

1. An owned home with a securely fenced yard.
2. Folks ideally not gone long hours.
3. Dachshund and rescue experiences adopters.
4. People who will include Arfie in their fun activities and who want to show him how much fun life can be.

If you meet all above criteria, don't wait to inquire or apply; To inquire, please email awoofovermyhead@gmail.com with "Arfie" in the subject line. A Woof Over My Head's Adoption Policy
Interested folks email us, telling us a bit about yourself and how the dog will fit into your life. Ideally, please leave a phone number and email. We will get in touch with you, either to chat first, or to send an application. If your application looks great, we'll check in, and your references are called. If it seems a great match, a meet is arranged, usually at potential adopters home/yard to allow for home inspection (home inspection via video of public areas of your home during Covid-19). Adoptions that are a match often, but not always, happen at the meet: the adoption contract is discussed, signed and the adoption donation is paid. You will receive records via email and usually, a set of "operating instructions" specific to the dog you have adopted. Each dog is sent off with a harness or martingale collar and enough food to get started. You supply an ID tag with one or two phone numbers, and a non-retractable leash. We check in several times after adoption, and we are always available for questions or updates and photos!
