Archimedes Flat-Coated Retriever Mix Lenoir, NC

Archimedes is a sweet boy with a playful attitude. He had to be in an outdoor enclosure when his family moved to a smaller home. They knew he deserved better so surrendered him in April 2020 for rehoming.

With a guesstimated birthday in April 2014, Archimedes weighs about 58 lb. He has seasonal allergies which cause him to itch. Prior to arriving in his foster home, he had lost some of the hair on his back end from itching and developed a skin infection. It's regrowing, but weekly medicated baths are appropriate to encourage healthy skin. He has worn down his teeth, possibly from biting at the wire in his enclosure, but doesn't appear to be in pain. Extractions were considered, but the vet said no need at this time with the other issues being addressed. He has a growth in his mouth. The biopsy indicated it wasn't malignant & shouldn't metastasize to other parts of his body. He's being monitored to determine the rate of regrowth.

Archimedes loves people and prefers polite dogs. He tolerates the cats in his foster home. He shows good house manners (no chewing etc.) and can be left loose in the house overnight.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. We suggest first time pet owners look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be added if using our veterinarian. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete.
