Meet Antonio - A Sweet Little Guy Finding His Brave<br/><br/>Antonio is a one-year-old Shih Tzu who weighs 9 pounds and has the sweetest little spirit. He may be shy right now, but beneath that hesitation is a happy, curious boy who is beginning to discover just how much fun his new life can be.<br/><br/>Antonio especially comes alive during playgroup. He loves having the freedom to explore, investigate his surroundings, and enjoy time outside. His energetic, happy personality shines when he feels comfortable, giving us wonderful glimpses of the playful little dog waiting to fully emerge.<br/><br/>Being picked up is still something Antonio finds a little scary, but we're working with him every day through gentle, positive interactions. He's learning that hands can bring safety, affection, and comfort, and with patience and consistency, he'll continue becoming more comfortable with this part of his new life.<br/><br/>Antonio gets along very well with other dogs and enjoys having them around. In fact, he may do best with a friendly, social dog in his new home. Having a canine companion to follow and learn from could provide reassurance as Antonio adjusts to family life and discovers all the new experiences waiting for him.<br/><br/>His future family will need to understand that his journey will continue after adoption. At NMDR, we use a welcoming, conversation-based adoption process! We look at every applicant as a partner, offering honest education about our dogs' needs so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle. We generally do not deny adoptions based solely on yard size, housing type, adopter age, or having other pets. Because many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeding facilities, we maintain a few firm safety and mission-aligned policies: Spay/Neuter Requirement: To help end the cycle of irresponsible breeding, all resident dogs in your home must be spayed or neutered. Homes with Children: Many of our dogs had limited socialization before rescue. Older kids are often a great match! Homes with younger children are considered individually based on the dog’s needs and the adopter’s experience with home management. Companions Only: Our dogs are adopted strictly as indoor family companions. Out-of-State Adopters: You are welcome to apply, but you must travel directly to the specific shelter housing the dog (in CO or MO) to complete the adoption. We do not ship or transport dogs. A Supportive Safety Net: Life is unpredictable, and sometimes a match isn't perfect. We discuss long-term safety nets with all adopters, and if a placement doesn't work out, we welcome our dogs back with zero judgment. Fees: Adoption fees vary by age and directly offset the extensive veterinary care, dental work, and rehabilitation each dog receives before adoption. Ready to meet your new best friend?
