Anna's Story

Meet Anna! Anna is a 10-month-old girl who is learning that the world can be a safe place. She is a shy, sensitive girl who takes time to feel comfortable, but with patience and gentle company, she has slowly started showing just how sweet she is. Anna appreciates people who are willing to sit quietly with her and give her the time she needs to build trust.

Anna has already made some wonderful progress. She has gone from keeping to herself in her kennel to allowing gentle pets on her head, body, and chest. She has started sniffing the people who sit with her, making eye contact, taking treats and water from a hand, and even venturing outside to explore. These may seem like small steps, but for Anna, each one is a big accomplishment and a sign that her confidence is growing.

Anna is looking for a patient home that will let her settle in and build confidence at her own pace. New people and surroundings may take some time for her to get used to, but once she begins to trust, her gentle and affectionate side starts to shine through. She has already shown that with kindness, consistency, and plenty of patience, she can become a little braver each day. Anna is looking for someone who will celebrate every bit of progress with her and give her the time she needs to feel safe and loved.

Anna is heartworm positive and will need to continue activity restrictions while she recovers. Once she's feeling her best, she'll be ready to enjoy all the adventures life has to offer.

Anna at a Glance

Age: 10 months old
Favorite Activities: Quiet time with trusted people, gentle pets, and exploring at her own pace
Training: Building confidence, learning to trust people, and getting more comfortable with new experiences
Personality: Shy, gentle, sweet, and affectionate once she begins to feel safe

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
