Angus aka Lugnut's Story

The Legend of Lugnut

Some say he was built from leftover boulders and spare parts. Others claim he spent his youth soaking up wisdom from Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, and Cheech & Chong. All we know is — he's Angus, a.k.a. Lugnut, the world's most lovable, stubborn, 3-4 yr old, 140 - pound Velcro Dane.

Angus isn’t just a dog — he’s a lifestyle.

Need a bathroom buddy? He’s already kicking down the door.

Want a hiking partner who doubles as an emergency stop sign - butt scratches are an emergency right?....He’s ready.

Need a nap buddy who takes up 90% of the couch? Say no more.

Want someone who loves you more than he loves food (and that's saying a lot)? That’s our Lugnut.

He gets along with well-behaved dogs after proper introductions, respects cats (even the ones with knife mittens), and thinks little kids are weird tiny humans — older kids, though? They're just the right speed for his giant goofy heart.

Now, real talk: when his foster mom leaves the house, Angus will check any and all escape routes - foster mom found this out the hard way when he teeter tottered (picture a hippo in your mind) over a fence and was eyeballing the neighbor's ring camera looking for her - she was only gone 5 minutes! Without his people around, this big goofy lug just can’t figure out how to settle himself until he KNOWS he can't be part of a rescue party. Thank God he doesn't have opposable digits - he would call the police to put out an APB if he could ; )). Once he knows that he is well and truly locked down he settles just fine.

If you believe your destiny involves a giant shadow, daily butt scratch interruptions, and unconditional love in its most hilarious form —
Come meet Angus. Adopt the legend. Live the Lugnut life.

Angus is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. He came to us with SEVERE ear infections which we have worked through these many months. Our vet feels he will need preventative ear meds for life. Good thing he is an easy going dude that loves ear rubbins’ and the meds are relatively inexpensive.

Angus's adoption fee is $350. To apply to adopt, please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt to read the requirements before applying.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dog in person from the foster home.

Our adoption requirements are as follows: 1. All Dogs and Cats in your home MUST be spayed or neutered. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet only. 2. All Dogs and outdoor Cats in your home MUST be current and have been kept historically up to date on annual vaccinations and monthly (or semiannual) heartworm and flea prevention. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions to this in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet, ONLY. 3. You must be a minimum of 21 years of age to adopt and be able to prove you're financially able to care for a great dane should a medical emergency arise. 4. You must own the property in which you live or your landlord must be willing to verify that you are allowed to have a Great Dane in your rental home. We check property records.? 5. Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered. In addition, if the adoption does not work out, it is your responsibility to bring the dane safely back to us. 9. There may be multiple applications for the same Dog. Our Great Danes are placed in the home we believe most suitable for them, based upon their individual needs and temperament. 10. Before applying below, please expect this application process to take about two weeks. If you are applying from out of area or state, please expect a slight delay. It will take us more time to get the home visit set up. At any time, if you have questions about the status of your application, please email the rescue at nwflgdr@gmail.com.
