Amelia's Story

We are so excited to introduce you to Amelia, a tiny survivor with a huge heart!

Amelia had a very rough start when she first arrived at the shelter. She was thin, weak, and in such poor condition that the caring shelter staff literally carried her around with them throughout their workday. She had a tumor on her eye, a mammary tumor, and several other age-related ailments. This sweet girl desperately needed help—and thankfully, she landed in the hands of people who would not give up on her.

Friends of Burlington County Animal Shelter, the shelter staff, and the veterinary team all saw a life worth fighting for in Amelia. Through several surgeries and an incredible amount of compassionate care, they gave her the second chance she truly deserved. To her wonderful foster family: thank you for giving her a loving home where she could heal and feel safe.

Now, Amelia is with us at Atlantic County Canines, continuing her journey in a foster home—and she is thriving! She is very sweet, absolutely loves attention, and enjoys playing with balls and toys, as well as going on walks. So far, she has been an absolute sweetheart. After everything she has endured, her gentle spirit makes her all the more special.

Amelia will require a dental procedure that our rescue will be taking care of soon. She is housebroken and weighs approximately 9 pounds, making her the perfect little companion. She gets along with most calm dogs.
