He truly thrives on companionship from both people and dogs and, once comfortable, loves to snuggle, share blankets, and give kisses.

He learns quickly from confident, well-mannered dogs and is gaining confidence every day by following positive role models in his foster home. Alfie enjoys walks, playtime, and is great on leash. He is curious, eager to learn, and always excited to engage with his surroundings.

Alfie eats well, loves treat puzzles, and happily enjoys enrichment such as Woof Pupsicles when left alone. He has shown no destructive behaviors when separated from humans while staying with the foster family’s dogs.

He responds well to Gabapentin and Trazodone for anxiety support, which has helped him settle, focus, and continue making steady progress.

Important Note for Homes with Cats

Alfie has completed a live cat assessment. During the interaction:

• He continued to approach even when the cat showed discomfort
• When prevented from getting closer, he stood and barked while watching the cat
• This behavior could cause stress for resident cats and potential noise concerns

Alfie is not aggressive, but he is highly curious and easily stimulated by cats. Prospective adopters should be prepared to manage this behavior long-term.

To help reduce his intensity around cats, Alfie will need consistent physical and mental exercise, including:

• Dog park visits
• Structured daycare
• Longer walks or runs
• Enrichment before expecting calm behavior indoors

Rescue & Health

• Rescued from Hongseong Shelter in South Korea just before euthanasia
• 4Dx: Positive for prior Anaplasma exposure; PCR negative (no active infection)
• Healthy with no known allergies
• Preventatives: NexGard Spectra every 15th (year-round)
• Diet: Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Chicken & Brown Rice
• Favorite treats: meat, sweet potato, pear, apple, banana, cod skin, dental chews, peanut butter

Personality

Alfie is affectionate, playful, and emotionally open. He loves gentle handling, brushing, cuddling, and being close to his people. He continues to build confidence in new environments and shows impressive progress with routine, patience, and encouragement.

With Women: Bonds easily with calm, kind handlers
With Men: Slight initial caution due to limited exposure, but warms up quickly with positive attention
With Children: Good with calm, respectful kids; sensitive to sudden movements or chasing

With Other Dogs

Alfie thrives with other dogs. He plays well with larger companions and eagerly tries to befriend new dogs. With smaller or more reserved dogs, he may benefit from light supervision to ensure boundaries are respected.

With Cats: Highly stimulated and persistent; generally not suitable for most cat homes.

Home Life

Alfie is currently fostered in a condo environment with two adults and three other dogs, and he is doing very well.

• Comfortable being left alone for a few hours with structured independence training
• Sleeps and relaxes well on a cushion or in his crate; may bark briefly when first settling in
• Fully outdoor potty trained (previously pad-trained)
• Generally quiet indoors; may vocalize briefly when excited or frustrated, with occasional alert barking at dogs outside
• Travels in a crate for car rides; may drool or vomit if fed immediately before travel
• Loves snow and happily enjoys winter walks and outdoor play

Independence Training (From Foster)

Alfie learned independence through a thoughtful, consistent routine:

• Exercise and enrichment before departures
• High-value treats at departure
• Gradually increasing alone time (5, 10, 30, 60 minutes, etc.)
• Returning only when calm
• Low-key arrivals and departures

Affection was given once Alfie was calm, which eliminated jumping and whining. This approach helped him adjust within two weeks initially and again quickly after boarding.

Ideal Home & Lifestyle

Alfie will do best with active, dog-savvy adopters who can provide daily exercise, structure, and positive training. His ideal routine includes two long walks or runs each day, weekend hikes or snow walks, and regular enrichment such as treat puzzles and nose work.

He thrives with companionship and would love a home with a friendly resident dog or regular access to daycare, dog parks, or playgroups. Outdoors, an escape-proof harness and double leash are required for safety.

Not recommended for: low-activity homes or families frequently away for long hours.

Why You’ll Love Alfie

Alfie is joy in dog form — affectionate, playful, resilient, and full of heart. He greets each day ready to learn, explore, and connect. With continued guidance and love, he will be an incredibly devoted adventure companion.

Adoption Information

Adoption Fee: $650 (includes neuter, vaccinations, health certificate, and international flight)
Apply to Adopt: [https://forms.gle/UmpfbgmydH7igSdN7]
