During the interaction:<br/><br/>• He continued to approach even when the cat showed discomfort<br/>• When prevented from getting closer, he stood and barked while watching the cat<br/>• This behavior could cause stress for resident cats and potential noise concerns<br/><br/>Alfie is not aggressive, but he is highly curious and easily stimulated by cats. He plays well with larger companions and eagerly tries to befriend new dogs. With smaller or more reserved dogs, he may benefit from light supervision to ensure boundaries are respected.<br/><br/>With Cats: Highly stimulated and persistent; generally not suitable for most cat homes.<br/><br/>Home Life<br/><br/>Alfie is currently fostered in a condo environment with two adults and three other dogs, and he is doing very well.<br/><br/>• Comfortable being left alone for a few hours with structured independence training<br/>• Sleeps and relaxes well on a cushion or in his crate; may bark briefly when first settling in<br/>• Fully outdoor potty trained (previously pad-trained)<br/>• Generally quiet indoors; may vocalize briefly when excited or frustrated, with occasional alert barking at dogs outside<br/>• Travels in a crate for car rides; may drool or vomit if fed immediately before travel<br/>• Loves snow and happily enjoys winter walks and outdoor play<br/><br/><br/>Independence Training (From Foster)<br/><br/>Alfie learned independence through a thoughtful, consistent routine:<br/><br/>• Exercise and enrichment before departures<br/>• High-value treats at departure<br/>• Gradually increasing alone time (5, 10, 30, 60 minutes, etc.)<br/>• Returning only when calm<br/>• Low-key arrivals and departures<br/><br/>Affection was given once Alfie was calm, which eliminated jumping and whining. This approach helped him adjust within two weeks initially and again quickly after boarding.<br/><br/>Ideal Home & Lifestyle<br/><br/>Alfie will do best with active, dog-savvy adopters who can provide daily exercise, structure, and positive training. His ideal routine includes two long walks or runs each day, weekend hikes or snow walks, and regular enrichment such as treat puzzles and nose work.<br/><br/>He thrives with companionship and would love a home with a friendly resident dog or regular access to daycare, dog parks, or playgroups.
