Abe's Story

Abe is part gentle soul part rambunctious dude. When he's comfortable he's playful, curious and a little spicy (he's got personality!). He's a huge fan of rolling around with other pups, chewing on sticks and playing outside. He's also figuring out fetch and loves to play with his toys. Belly rubs are one of his favorite activities and he does love to be near either his human or foster brother as a little shadow. When in new places/with new people he can be cautious and takes a little bit to settle in. Car rides also make him nervous but being with his brother helps. Recently we have been walking on the leash and he loves the new smells, sights and had no problem keeping up with the bigger pups!

For a little dude, he doesn't love being picked up as it holds him back and he loves to run - but he does appreciate a close snuggle in scarier (to him) situations. He sleeps through the night, snuggled up next to the dogs on the bed and always has the whole house. While he's not in the teething stage yet, he has not found anything naughty to chew on. Additionally, he has been using the pee pad constantly (if he doesn't go outside) and prefers to poo outside - we are constantly potty training and it is going very well! Because of these things, he does not stay in a kennel or an x-pen - he is home alone (with other animals) about 4 hours at least once a day, sometimes twice depending.

I have a resident cat and when she strolls by he gets curious but leaves her alone when she sets boundaries. There are no kids in the house but he has done well with them on outings/meet and greets! He is a little mouthy and we are working on that but this is normal puppy behavior - just something to be aware of with real little ones. He is very treat motivated and he's proven to be super smart - so he should be eager to train! I have started with "sit" and "come" and it's going well.

Overall, Abe is a very happy pup with playful energy and a big soft heart. Abe loves other dogs (of all sizes!) - they seem to help him break out of his shell and give him comfort - because of this, Abe would likely do best with a companion.

Abe is estimated to be 4.5 months old and 13 lbs. Since we dont know the dogs actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.

If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!

Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/
You do not need to have a Facebook account to check the Safe Hands Facebook page for attendance. We hope to see you at an upcoming Meet & Greet!

Saturday, June 20, 12 -2pm, Forgotten Star Brewing, 38 Northern Stacks Drive, Fridley https://www.facebook.com/events/26571225559137687

Saturday, June 27, 11am-1pm, Bachman's Fridley, 8200 University Ave NE, Fridley https://www.facebook.com/events/1284127196937027
