A Lover - Trooper Dec 24's Story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks
the CPR Adoption team

returned 5 2 25 housetraining, barking, won't crateDate into Rescue: Trooper originally arrived in rescue on 12/3/2024. He was adopted in early 2025. In May 2025, Trooper returned to rescue when his owner said they could no longer care for him. We are so thankful he did - Trooper had an intestinal blockage and required emergency surgery to save his life. Trooper was adopted a second time in June 2025. He returned to rescue in August. We know what Trooper needs in a forever home. It is non-negotiable. Please read his description fully.
Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release / Owner surrender
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Yes, Trooper needs a watchful eye in the home. He loves to explore. On 05/05/25 Trooper had emergency surgery to remove an intestinal blockage. Trooper had eaten part of a cloth toy. It's imperative that Trooper's forever home monitors him closely and understands that, if bored, he will go exploring and will eat things.
Weight: 44 lbs
Height: 26 in at the shoulder
Spayed/Neutered: Yes, Trooper is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 01/08/25 Trooper had a dental polishing.

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? No, but sweet Trooper has never lived without a fence and would love one.

What kind of home would be best for me?
Trooper is looking for a home that will provide loving guidance, structure, and consistency as he continues to mature. He is intelligent and curious, and like many young dogs, he explores with his mouth. Because of this, Trooper absolutely must be crated whenever he cannot be directly supervised. This is not optional. Crating keeps his adventures to a minimum. He also must be actively watched when out in the home to ensure he does not chew or swallow things that aren’t appropriate. We encourage toys that he CAN chew on. Puzzle toys, Kong toys with Peanut Butter. With management, routine, and plenty of appropriate chew toys, he can continue building better habits—but supervision and crating are essential for him. Trooper also requires another large, confident dog in the home. He benefits tremendously from canine companionship and gains confidence by following a steady role model. A dog friend helps him feel secure and supports his continued growth and learning. He they can also provide him entertainment and keep him occupied. Because Trooper can be vocal when left alone, he needs a stand-alone home rather than one with shared walls, such as apartments and townhomes. It is imperative that Trooper's home understands he needs guidance and help to learn what's a toy and not.

What is my personality like?
In an environment that caters to Trooper's need he is the equivalent to a gentle teddy bear. Sweet and loving and eager to please. Trooper is a stunning red doodle with a sensitive heart and a strong desire to bond with his people. He may be shy when first meeting someone new, but he is truly coming into his own. Once he feels safe and understands that he can trust you, Trooper warms up beautifully and genuinely enjoys affection, attention, and being close to his people. Underneath that initial hesitation is a dog who wants connection and thrives on reassurance.

How do I act when I first meet new people?
Trooper may not immediately rush into a stranger’s arms, but he does love people and happily accepts affection. In a patient, structured home that understands the importance of supervision and crating, Trooper will continue to blossom into an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion. With clear boundaries and lots of love, he will reward his family with deep devotion and a heart full of gratitude.

Other tips and tidbits: Trooper was born on 1/23/2017.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
