Meet 6803 Phoenix

ADOPTION REQURIEMENTS

FENCED YARD
AGE APPROPRIATE CANINE COMPANION

My name is Phoenix. I was surrendered to a shelter when my person was no longer able to care for me. My foster mom tells you a lot about me below.

Phoenix is the sweetest little girl, looking for someone to cuddle with! Phoenix is between 6-8 years old but has so much life left in her! She is very well socialized; great with other dogs, cats, and people. She loves snuggling and sleeping under the covers at night. Phoenix finds comfort in being near her person and getting all the belly rubs, lovins, and pets. She really enjoys playing with balls and chew toys, but is not destructive of household items if left out of the crate unsupervised. She does great with verbal commands, knows/responds to her name, and has good recall. Phoenix weighs about 14lbs, and is a fairly small size dog. She is suspected to be part-dachshund mixed with something else. I describe her as having a dachshund head, with a proportionate sized body (as opposed to having little legs).

Phoenix would thrive in almost any type of ownership situation: a family with kids, a single person, an older adult, etc. She has been around other dogs most of her life, but could probably be fine as an only dog, as long as she got a lot of love and could cuddle with her person regularly. She is not taken on daily walks, but does run in a large yard several times day and taken on a few walks a week. So, I believe she would do fine with an active family/person or a more laid-back family/person. She is very well-behaved and can adapt to her living situation well (she seems to read the energy of playtime vs. quiet/relax time).
She is still working on telling you when she needs to go potty, but if kept on a regular schedule to go outside, she rarely has accidents outside of those times. She is decently potty pad trained as well, so if she needs to go while in the house, she is pretty good at using the potty pads, but still has the occasional accident.

Phoenix sometimes needs a little bit to warm up to new people, but is usually very trusting and cuddly within just a couple of days. She is weary of strangers/new people in the home, and may bark at them before calming down and gaining trust. She will occasionally bark (usually at something unknown/unseen – trash truck, doorbell, dog barking off in the distance, or around a new person), but can be redirected and stopped from barking with verbal commands pretty easily, even if other dogs continue barking around her.
