3 Legged LIZZIE's Story
Lizzie isn't available just yet. We want to give her surgery site a little longer to heal. You can put in an application for her, however, and get the ball rolling on her adoption when she is ready! To learn more please feel free to message us at caninekarmarescue@gmail.com or fill out our application at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/CKR/Dog

Liz is only about a year old but has had a really rough start to life. This poor girl was shot by someone when she was a puppy. Her owner didn't treat the injury and poor Liz was lame on that leg. Not much later her owner was arrested and put in jail. Without any one to care for her she sat in the local shelter for two months. Xrays were done on the leg at that time and showed there were still metal fragments in the leg and that the bone had shattered and the leg couldn't be saved. It was removed but Lizzie had a hard time with the surgery and her temperature dropped and she became anemic. That is when we stepped in hoping to give her a warm bed and a chance to recover. However, immediately her condition worsened. She developed a hematoma on her chest and bloody diarrhea which required an immediate emergency visit to the vet. She is currently doing better but we are are still working to treat the anemia.

This sweet girl is a trooper though. She is very food motivated and loves to snuggle under the blanket. If you stop petting her she is quick to shove her head right back under your hand or shove in to you with her head luring you in to more scratches. She has been excellent about going outside to the bathroom and has spent the majority of her recovery just lying peacefully on our couch. She does great with other dogs and is very relaxed with them. She has also ignored our many cats that taunt the dogs by walking right in front of them.

We do not do adoptions on a first come first served basis. We are looking for a home for Lizzie that is capable of keeping her safe and loved for the rest of her life. We don't want her to have to struggle ever again. She has already had her fair share of that.
