Meet Xena and Mira

DOB: 9/15/23
Xena's tumultuous journey began in the solitude of a backyard, a frightened and lonely kitten desperately searching for the mother who had abandoned her. Her eyes, once windows to the world, were badly infected and bulging, rendering her visionless. It was in this vulnerable state that we discovered her, scooping her up and ushering her into the compassionate care of Kitten Rescue. At the rescue, a dedicated team embarked on a mission to heal Xena's ailing eyes. Armed with medicine, unwavering commitment, and the expertise of three veterinarians, we embarked on a weeks-long journey of round-the-clock care. Despite our best efforts, the swelling subsided, but it became evident, with the consensus of the veterinary trio, that Xena would never regain her sight. In a decisive move to safeguard her from potential infections and accidents, her eyes were gently removed, granting her immediate relief.
Remarkably, throughout this arduous process, Xena exhibited an indomitable spirit. Undeterred by her newfound blindness, she seamlessly integrated into her foster home, following her feline companion Mira with unwavering determination. Xena quickly adapted to her surroundings, mastering the art of leaping up and down the cat tree, engaging in spirited play with her foster siblings (Mira and Jip), and delighting in the array of toys scattered around the house. Her resilience and playful spirit captured our hearts, inspiring us to christen her Xena, the Warrior Princess.Despite her unique circumstances, Xena proved that blindness would not define her. In play-fights with her 'siblings,' she emerged as a formidable contender, showcasing the strength of her warrior spirit. Independent yet affectionate, Xena exuded a love for cuddles, cherishing moments of warmth and connection with her human companions.
While she navigates best when surroundings are in order, her adaptability comes to the fore when faced with changes. Thanks to a few gentle cues, she seamlessly integrates into the daily rhythms of life and can be treated mostly as any other kitten.
Mira, a feral TNR cat from the same area, joined Xena's tale a week after being trapped. Showing signs of distress with an infected incision, she sought refuge in our home, expressing a silent plea for help. Kitten Rescue arranged prompt medical attention and her wound healed beautifully. Introduced to Xena, the two formed an inseparable bond, becoming besties who engaged in playful wrestling and demonstrated patience when needed.
Beyond their playful antics, Mira exhibited a tender side, seeking comfort on laps and finding cozy spots for rest after the excitement of playtime. Recognizing the strength of their bond, we hope to find a loving home where Xena and Mira can continue their shared adventures, bringing joy, companionship, and a touch of magic to the hearts lucky enough to adopt these resilient feline friends.
