Theo's Story

On June 22, 2026 the call came in that there was an injured kitten in the inner city of Rochester sitting on a porch. I drove to the inner city on that Sunday early am thinking the cat was attacked by a dog or another cat beat it up. After recently trying to help a cat one month before with undiagnosed rabies, I did not look at the kitten and asked the houseowner to put the kitten in the carrier. I had a PTSD about picking up stray animals.

I had already called Daya Urgent care and they allowed me to come in within the next 40 minutes and I headed to the hospital. I told them I thought the cat was attacked by another animal or had an abscess. When I arrived I checked the kitten in who I named Theo and paid the $600.00 to have the kitten exam.

This little boy kitten will go down as one of my precious rescues in 26 years of being a animal warrior. The vet called me 4 hours later and said come into the hospital, he is on the table and I need to talk with you.

I did not expect to see Theo laid out on the table in surgery. Basically she said he was burned on 33 percent of his body and he would need to see a vet every two days for bandages changes for at least 3-4 weeks. In my mind, I knew that was thousands of dollars. I looked at Theo and tried to say please put the poor guy to sleep but it would not come out of my mouth. I backed up and looked at her and said I can 't say the words, tell me what to do. She was quiet and then she said he is a fighter and to live 2 weeks with such burns he wants to live.

Theo got the second chance of life because I was able to raise $4,000 to save him. The people of Rochester were fabulous and opened their heart to save poor Theo. Theo and I went every two days to Coldwater Animal Hospital for a knock down bandage change. We went for over 3 weeks and they saved his life.

Now it is August and he is healed, neutered and ready to start his precious life that was almost taken away by a sick human being. This was animal tortured and we have a sick human living in Rochester. NY.

He is now 6 months old and the vet's estimated his birthday to be FEB 22 of this year. He has all his vaccinations, tested and is a very lucky kitten. He weighs 7 lbs and is half grown and still looks like a kitten. He lost both ears, one is totally gone and the other ear is 1/2 the size it should be. He has some scars but most of the hair has grown back which surprised the doctors. He is a medium length black and gray tiger with a long bushy tail. He has white feet and is such a pretty cat. He likes dogs because I have 4 and he learned to be one of them. As I write this, Theo is laying near the sliding door right next to a dog trying to gather a sunbeam on his healed body.

My heart was torn as I sat with him the first week not knowing if he was going to live. He was drugged for the pain and would lay on his bed but he wanted me to hold his paw.

This little boy is special and I hope you will fill out an application on Duffy's WEBSITE as the next step to meet him. His adoption fee is $175.00 and he will bring you so much love. He loves to purr and I use to hear him purr in his bed to self sooth his little painful body.

The pictures I post will be the order of healing.

https://duffysfriends.org for your application.

Duffy's Friends Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Duffy's Friends adoption process: We believe in matching pets to families and we accept applications. We review the application and if we think it's a match we will call you immediately. We do not ship dogs long distances so the home must be within driving distance of Rochester, New York. We do require a fenced yard with physical fencing on all sides that is in good shape and connected. No electric fence or boundary training. Children should be 12 years old minimum if they are living in the home with our pet. A long history of owning a dog in your name is very important. Finally, homeownership is a must and we do validate this information by reviewing the tax roles to find the owner of the property. We can not adopt to apartments, condos, or townhomes due to the fenced yard requirement. Dogs under 6 lbs will be considered for a no fenced lifestyle.
