Tang (& Coal Porter)'s Story

Meet Tang, a friendly cuddlebug! Tang LOVESSSS his humans. He is an absolute lap cat, and one might even call him a chest cat, as that is where he may be found if his foster mom is laying down. Since Day One in his foster home, Tang has been attached to his foster mom. She and Tang describe their relationship as a great one. Tang’s foster mom knows this because this little guy is VERY talkative. During their many conversations with one another, Tang has clearly expressed his heartfelt emotions to her! Tang and his foster brother Coal get along really well with one another. While Tang isn’t quite as playful as Coal Porter, the two boys spend lots of time playing in and around their tunnel toy. Tang’s favorite sleeping spot is a living room chair. This chair has, in fact, become “Tang’s chair”. Tang also enjoys hanging out on the boys’ cat tree. And don’t forget his foster mom’s lap or chest! Tang is an extremely social fellow; he loves to introduce himself and become acquainted with visitors to the home. Tang is very loving, friendly and affectionate, and his foster mom calls him her “little friend”.

Tang became known to CCR when a school employee informed us that an orange cat had been routinely appearing on school grounds whenever students were arriving and leaving school. On this particular day, the cat had attempted to enter the building along with the kids. This feline interloper was now "a threat to the students". REALLY??? A CCR volunteer showed up at the end of the school day and, sure enough, as students exited the building, Tang made his appearance! We can't guarantee that this stray kitty wasn't seeking a formal education. But we think it more likely that he was merely seeking a meal. It took all of five minutes to "catch" this hungry, homeless fellow.

If you would like to learn more about Tang and Coal Porter, and arrange to meet them, please email info@chicagocatrescue.org for the quickest reply, or call 773/203-0215. No texts, please.

CCR adopts to forever homes in Chicago or the very near suburbs that are within 10 miles of our respective Chicago foster families. Most of our foster families reside on the north side of the city. We love our cats and we pledge support for the rest of their lives, which is why our location limits are in place. We appreciate your understanding. If you are outside of these limits, please check petfinder.com, which allows searching by zip code, for cats closer to your home.

At Chicago Cat Rescue, we are dedicated to both the physical and emotional well-being of the cats and kittens in our care. For this reason, unless expressly stated, we do not place cats or kittens in homes where they will be the only cat. In our experience, most cats love the company of other cats, and can become quite lonely when living alone.

Kittens will only be placed in pairs, or to join another kitten or young cat in your home.

Chicago Cat Rescue is an entirely foster based organization. Our ability to help more cats in need is dependent on our availability of foster homes. If you think you could provide a loving foster situation for a cat in need, or would like to learn more about our foster program, please email us, foster@chicagocatrescue.org. Thank you!

Chicago Cat Rescue's Adoption Policy
Chicago Cat Rescue is a foster based organization, which means that all our cats and kittens are housed in private foster homes until we find them permanent homes. We generally begin by having a phone conversation with prospective adopters in order to find out what you're looking for and to learn something about you and your home situation. CCR adopts to homes in Chicago and the very near suburbs, which are within 10 miles of our Chicago foster families. Our minimum adoption age is 25. We then put you in touch with our foster parents, so you can contact them directly to schedule meet ‘n greets with our cats in their foster homes. Meeting our cats in their foster homes and having in-depth conversations with our foster parents is a great way to learn about your prospective cats' personalities and temperaments. We sometimes begin with a virtual visit between adopters and foster parents, and our cats are able to participate too! Then, if all parties are comfortable, an in-home visit is scheduled. All family members are expected to participate in these virtual and in-home visits. During the challenging past three years, we’ve tried our best to continue to give our cats the opportunity to find their forever homes. At the same time, we have strived to maintain the integrity of our adoption process. Once you’ve met the cat(s) you’d like to adopt, we will send you our adoption application and contract. We ask for a couple of business days to process applications, which gives you time to prepare for your new furry family member's arrival. Application processing includes contacting personal, vet and landlord references (as applicable). After your application is approved, we deliver our cats to their new homes. Our adoption fee is $175 per cat or kitten, to help defray our costs. All our cats are spayed/neutered, blood tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, dewormed, FVRCP vaccinated and micro chipped, in addition to receiving any other necessary medical care. We maintain follow up contact with our adopters by phone and email to help ensure a smooth transition, and to address any questions and concerns that may arise. We hope our adopters will use us as a resource both at the time of adoption and on into the future, as needed.
