Sploot's Story

FIV with exposure to FelvSploot is a survivor, a lover, and a testament to the fact that a rough past doesn’t have to define a beautiful future. After being left behind when his previous family moved away, Sploot spent a significant amount of time fending for himself outdoors. When he finally came into foster care, he was matted, tired, and sporting four broken canine teeth, battle scars from a life he never should have had to lead.<br/><br/>Despite everything, Sploot didn’t lose his spark. He isn't just "friendly", he is deeply people-oriented and treats every human he meets like a long-lost friend.<br/><br/>Why You’ll Fall for Him<br/><br/>The Ultimate Companion: Sploot thrives on closeness. Whether you’re working from home or relaxing on the couch, he wants to be right there with you.<br/><br/>Dog’s Best Friend: Unbothered and social, Sploot does wonderfully with dogs and enjoys the hustle and bustle of a multi-species household.<br/><br/>Gentle Soul: He is remarkably patient and has shown zero aggression, even after everything he’s been through.<br/><br/>Health & Care<br/><br/>Sploot is an FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) warrior. While the name can sound intimidating, FIV+ cats typically live long, healthy, and happy lives with nothing more than routine vet checkups and a high-quality diet.<br/><br/>A Note on Socializing: To be extra safe, we recommend Sploot be the only cat in his new home for the first few months. Because a cat he was found with tested positive for FeLV, we want to ensure Sploot stays in the clear before he makes any new feline friends. He is perfectly happy being your "one and only" or hanging out with his canine siblings in the meantime!<br/><br/>The Ideal Forever Home<br/><br/>Sploot is looking for a stable, loving environment where "forever" actually means forever. He would thrive in:<br/><br/>A home with people who have plenty of time for chin scratches and snuggles.<br/>A household with a cat-friendly dog (he’s a pro!).<br/>A family that understands that FIV+ just means "extra special," not "extra difficult."<br/><br/>Sploot was once left behind, but he is more than ready to be the center of someone’s world. Could yours be the lap he’s been waiting for?

Smelly Cat Rescue's Adoption Policy
We are a home-foster-based rescue and do not have a public facility for open visits. Instead, we'll match you with the volunteer foster family for the cat(s) or kitten(s) of your choice for an in-home meet and greet upon application approval and availability. Please read the application questions and consider your answers carefully before submitting. An application does not guarantee or commit you to adopting a cat from Smelly Cat Rescue. There is no fee to apply for our cats or kittens. Kittens can't go home alone! We give preference to kitten applications that already have a young cat at home or are wanting to adopt kittens in pairs. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and able to pick up adopted animals from St. Louis or St. Charles county, Missouri. Cat/Kitten adoption fee is $175 each and includes sterilization, vaccinations (starter vaccinations for kittens under 16 weeks), deworming, microchip and triple snap test. Payments can be made via the 'Shop' page on the website, cash or check made out to Smelly Cat Rescue. Please be sure to check your junk mail! Sometimes our email responses can get sent to junk mail and if we don't receive a response, we could move on. We don't want you to miss out because of your spam filters! Many of our adoptable cats are available for visits, pets and play at our partner facility, the Cat Zen Cafe and Lounge on beautiful and historic Main Street in St. Charles, MO! Walk-ins welcome or reservations can be made (and highly encouraged!) through their website for 30 minute or 1 hour increments (+ tax) and you can also enjoy a hot or cold beverage and snack while getting to know some of our amazing adoptable floofs in an open area setting. Play with them with toys, sit on the comfy couches while they snooze or just enjoy the pets and snuggles of a cozy purr machine and find your own ‘Zen’. If one of the cats catches your heart while you visit, come back and apply here! We love when a best friend connection is already made! www.catzenlounge.com Adoption Terms - I am adopting this cat for myself. I will not gift, trade, or sell it in its lifetime. If at any time I can no longer care for this cat, I will return it to Smelly Cat Rescue. - This cat will be treated as a family member. It will be given love, affection, clean living conditions, fresh food and water daily, and yearly veterinary care. - This cat will live inside my home. The cat will never be outside without a proper leash, harness, carrier, or backpack. - I understand cats have a natural instinct to scratch things, including furniture. There are safe & affordable options to deter this behavior. I understand declawing a cat is a painful & inhumane procedure. Smelly Cat Rescue prohibits all adopters from declawing their animals at any time. - Adult cats are the most overlooked stray/lost animals. Especially if they aren’t wearing a collar. Your cat may be microchipped, but proper identification is critical to getting lost cats returned to their owners. I, the adopter, will purchase a “breakaway” collar for the cat, with an ID tag and will make every effort to always keep this collar on the cat. - Smelly Cat Rescue is not responsible for any future medical expenses, injuries, property damage, or future legal problems caused by owning this cat. - I understand a comprehensive medical evaluation has not been done on this cat. It is the adopter’s responsibility to take the cat to a veterinarian for a proper well-check and vaccinations. - I understand that failure to perform the duties listed in this agreement will result in a breach of contract. In such an event I authorize Smelly Cat Rescue to reclaim possession of adopted cat. - We offer a 21-day medical return policy. If within the first 21-days of ownership a medical condition is discovered that you don’t feel you can handle, or should have been disclosed, Smelly Cat Rescue will accept the cat back and refund the adoption fee. Smelly Cat Rescue will not reimburse any veterinary or other care expenses incurred during the 21-day period.
