Shadow's Story
Meet Shadow.

Some cats are lost. Some are abandoned. And some are quietly left behind, expected to survive on the kindness of whoever happens to notice them.

Shadow is one of those cats.

He belonged to a family. The same family who discarded another cat we took in, Calliope. While they moved on with their lives, Shadow was left outside, where neighbors stepped in to do what his own family would not. They fed him. They watched over him. They cared.

When the last wave of cold came through, one of his feeders reached out to us. She didn’t want him facing those freezing nights alone. And because she is one of our most dedicated volunteers, someone who shows up for us and for these animals time and time again, we said yes without hesitation.

Shadow came inside “just for the cold.”

But something changed.

Within days, it was clear this was not a cat who belonged outside. He settled into our isolation room like he had been waiting his whole life for it. Warm blankets. A window to watch the world go by. A TV playing in the background. Other cats nearby. Safety.

When his caretaker came to visit, he melted. The shy boy disappeared and in his place was a cat who leaned in, who asked for love, who trusted. She saw it too. And she asked us, please don’t put him back out there.

We didn’t need convincing.

Now Shadow spends his days with our long-time residents Louise, Luigi, Rumble, and August. He watches cars pass by like it’s his favorite show. He lounges. He explores. He occasionally gets into a little mischief. He steals treats when he thinks no one is looking.

He is home.

But it’s not his home yet.

Shadow is estimated to be around 8 years old. He has been fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested negative. He was already neutered, likely long before he was ever left behind.

He can be a little shy at first. You have to give him a moment. But once he knows you, once he feels safe, he will give you everything he has.

We have not moved him to the adoption floor. Truthfully, he’s a little spoiled. He has free reign of our isolation room and we didn’t have the heart to take that away from him. But he deserves more than a room. He deserves a person. A home. A life where he is not just safe, but chosen.

If you would like to meet Shadow, please come at least an hour before Jefferson Feed closes so one of our staff members can bring you back to meet him.

He has already been left behind once.

We are determined that will never happen to him again.

If you’d like to meet me, stop by Jefferson Feed (corner of Jefferson Hwy. and Central Ave.). We kindly ask that visits be made earlier in the day, as the last hour before closing is reserved for medications and end-of-day care.

Adoption Fee is $75/each or $120/pair. We like our cats/kittens to have friends so we want a pair adoption if you have no other pets unless we know a specific cat prefers to be alone. All cats are Spayed/Neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines, FeLV/FIV tested and microchipped.

Please note: this application is view-only in Dropbox and must be downloaded to your device to be completed.
