Possum's Story

It's official, Ms. Possum is looking for her forever MOMMA! This silky beauty has a preference for humans of the female persuasion. And while this may take a little more time for her to find her perfect home, she's quite content to be with her foster mom for as long as it takes. If you're looking for a cat to worship you - initially from afar as she inches her way into your arms and heart - Possum is the kitten for you. She loves to boop hands with her head, and is getting more comfortable being picked up for short periods of time. She loves to lounge on the daybed with her foster mom. This expert biscuit maker has a great purr and will find all the best spots to snuggle up for a good long cuddle session as you watch TV or read a book. She's also content to play with toys when she's left to her own devices which, in her foster mom's opinion, makes her the perfect companion as she doesn't wreak havoc when unsupervised.

UPDATE! What a difference a few days and a whole lot fewer kittens has made for Ms. Possum. This NOW incredibly affectionate girl was just waiting for her time to shine. She is still initially shy with new people, and loud children aren't her thing, but she would THRIVE with an adult who is looking for a soulmate! She can still entertain herself with toys when she's alone, but she loves head butts and snuggles with her foster mom. Now that she doesn't need to compete for attention, she's all about showing off her personality. And what a delightful change from her initial description. If you're looking for a cat to give you all of her love, Possum is your girl. Give her a week and she'll be your soulmate. Fair warning, she may drool a tiny bit when she first greets you in the morning or after a prolonged absence, but that's just because she's purring so hard she can't help it!

Initial description
Possum arrived as a "project" cat for her foster mom because she is naturally more timid compared to our usual kittens. She was initially fostered with some older, more established animals, and it took her nearly a week to fully adjust to her new foster home and the introduction to her new kitten foster companions.

While Possum is undeniably curious, she also possesses a reserved nature, often choosing to observe the lively happenings from a safe vantage point, such as a high shelf, before fully engaging. She genuinely desires to play with the other foster kittens, but she currently experiences some hesitation about how to approach them without feeling overwhelmed.

Possum would greatly benefit from dedicated, one-on-one playtime sessions and is currently making strides in forming a friendship with Edna. She has a particular fondness for the wand toy, and her intense focus during playtime sometimes leads to an unintentional gathering of foster mates, as she is so absorbed, she is often unaware that others have been drawn to the enticing feather toy.

Although she is still considered a work in progress, we are optimistic that her inherent curiosity will pave the way for her to thrive exceptionally well in a more tranquil and less stimulating home environment.

Possum is spayed, microchipped, negative for Felv/FIV, up-to-date on FVRCP and Rabies vaccines, and has received general deworming medications for intestinal parasites and fleas.

For more information about Possum or any of our other foster kittens, please reach out via PetFinder or directly via email at Stowkittens@gmail.com

Stow Kittens's Adoption Policy
Adoptions are done on a first meet, first adopt basis. Anyone interested in adopting a cat or kitten will come to the house(s) to meet all of the available kittens. That way you can see how the kittens react to everyone in order to make the best decision about which cat or kitten (if any) are the right fit. You must meet the kittens in order to adopt; we do not hold or reserve kittens. There's a short online adoption application to fill out (https://forms.gle/7Q5rgksyWFZ3RHNs8), as well as an adoption agreement you'll be asked to sign at the time of the adoption. We request that you provide a lifelong loving indoor home, provide regular Veterinary care, and do not have them declawed. A donation to Red Clay Animal Rescue is requested at the time of adoption. This covers what has been done for the kittens so far (spay/neuter, microchip, felv/fiv testing, deworming, initial vaccines). Some people have generously given a little extra to help support continued rescue efforts and more extensive care that is needed by some of the kittens. Donations can be made via cash, check, Venmo or PayPal. Since Red Clay is a 501c3 organization, the donation form doubles as a receipt for tax purposes.
