Meet Pablo

Pablo has a gentle, cheerful disposition that wins all the awards for Sweetness! He loves to romp, play and snuggle with his housemates. Unfortunately, damage to his spine that could have occurred before, during, or after his birth, added a complication he will have to live with. It has caused a lack of sensation in the area around his tail. This is a permanent condition that prevents him from having control over his elimination. As a kitten, he learned to wear a washable diaper, and he has become right at home with it!

Here is Pablo's story: his rescuer, Annette, was enjoying a 4th of July holiday picnic in El Paso, when she heard a faint mew, then spotted a tiny, fluffy white and orange kitten, crying alone in the bushes. Suddenly, the fireworks started, and the kitten scrambled into a hiding place where he was unreachable. Disconsolate at having lost him before she found him, and needing to return to Albuquerque the following day, Annette enlisted the help of an El Paso animal protection group, Sun City Cats, who managed to recover Pablo on the picnic grounds and bring him to safety. Annette flew back to El Paso, packed up Pablo and brought him to Albuquerque. Safe at last, he was examined, tested and vaccinated by VCA Wyoming, and his neurological condition was assessed.

When Annette connected with a few animal rescue groups to find a home for Pablo, she was told that his condition made him "not adoptable." Undaunted, she turned to NMAF. Thanks to a brand-new foster recruit, Amy, and her patient and caring family, Pablo has found a place in NMAF's foster program.

He is sweetness personified. Pablo enjoys chasing toys and his furry friends in his foster home. He enjoys all the usual feline pursuits like climbing cat trees and sitting in window sills. After playing, Pablo loves to find a warm lap to snuggle in, especially if there is a blanket to lie on. As far as his care is concerned, it helps that Pablo is very food motivated and will follow you when his name is called.

What is involved in caring for him? Pablo can easily pick up a new schedule. Having a set food and sleep schedule can simplify his care. He tolerates the diapers well and can be bathed by one person easily. Pablo is very affectionate, has a great personality, and would make a great addition to your household!
