My eye was treated, I was spayed, and for the first time in a long time, I was able to feel safe.<br/><br/>Slowly, my little body healed.<br/><br/>Today, I’m healthy and beautiful.<br/><br/>But sometimes hearts take a little longer to heal than bodies do. <br/><br/>So when I first meet you, I may be shy.<br/><br/>I may watch you quietly from a distance.<br/><br/>I may need some time before I decide it’s safe to come closer.<br/><br/>Please don’t rush me.<br/><br/>Sit with me.<br/><br/>Talk softly to me.<br/><br/>Let me learn your voice and your footsteps.<br/><br/>Let me discover for myself that your hands are gentle.<br/><br/>Because once I trust you, something beautiful happens...<br/><br/>I become your little shadow. <br/><br/>I’ll stay close to your feet.<br/><br/>I’ll quietly follow you from room to room.<br/><br/>You may turn around and suddenly realize that your little tabby girl has been following you everywhere.<br/><br/>That’s how I love.<br/><br/>Quietly.<br/><br/>Loyally.<br/><br/>Completely. <br/><br/>Maybe I won’t run into your arms the first day we meet.<br/><br/>But when I finally give you my trust, please understand how much that means.<br/><br/>Because after being hurt by people, I still found the courage to believe in them again.<br/><br/>I still want a human of my own.<br/><br/>I still believe someone out there will look at me and see more than a shy cat with a difficult past.<br/><br/>I’m dreaming about something very simple now.<br/><br/>A quiet home.<br/><br/>A warm place to sleep.<br/><br/>Gentle hands.<br/><br/>A peaceful life.<br/><br/>And one special person whose footsteps I can follow around the house for the rest of my life. <br/><br/>I survived the streets of Istanbul.<br/><br/>My body healed.<br/><br/>My eye healed.<br/><br/>And little by little, my heart learned how to trust again.<br/><br/>Now I’m ready for the final part of my journey...<br/><br/>A forever family. <br/><br/>Someone who will look at me and say:<br/><br/>“Take all the time you need, Winky. You never have to be afraid again.
