MICKEY's Story
Meet Mickey: The Brighton Heights Heartthrob Looking for a roommate who’s survived the streets of Pittsburgh and lived to tell the tale? Meet Mickey, a 4-year-old local legend from Brighton Heights who’s ready to trade his street cred for a spot on your sofa.
The Stats:
Vibe: Professional Best Friend.

Signature Look: The "Reverse Mohawk." He arrived with a shaved head due to a minor wound, but he’s rocking the tough-guy aesthetic while it grows back.

Social Life: Loves kids. Loves humans. Other cats? Let’s just say he’s "selective." He prefers to be the main character, though he might consider a supporting cast once he settles in.

Love Language: Churus. If you have a meat tube in your hand, you are essentially his deity.

Why You Need Him:
Mickey was a total gentleman with his rescuers and has shown nothing but "Big Purr Energy" since arriving at the rescue. He’s new, he’s slightly aerodynamic thanks to his haircut, and he has more potential than a first-round draft pick.

If you want a cat who’s gritty enough for the 412 but sweet enough to snuggle your kids, Mickey is your guy.

Are you tired of filling out the long applications? Did no one get back to you? If they did, was the cat was already adopted?

Email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text Faon(412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.

We do things the way we want to here at Save Our Strays. I was told no to adopting a cat before, from a very big shelter, for a foolish reason. I know how you feel and all the extensive BS-some of those applications ask. It is almost like they don't want the cat to find a home. Facts: You cannot predict the future through a questionnaire. We are all adults; If you have another cat they need to be up to date on vaccines esp FVRCP (ask me) and combo tested for FeLV & FIV before you adopt. FIV is nothing but FeLV is sadly and those cats should be only kitties. Cats with FeLV look the same as any other cat, they can live many years and not become sick.

Since 2020, SOS has rescued and adopted more than 1,500 stray cats in the Pittsburgh area. Included in our adoption fee $150 is full vetting. The cats are spayed/neutered and dewormed, have received Capstar for any flea issues and NEXGUARD COMBO for any parasites, received two FVRCP vaccines as well as their rabies vaccine, are treated for ear mites (if needed), are combo tested for FeLV and FIV, and are microchipped which will transfer to you. Once the adult cats are fully vetted and vaccinated, they freely roam across two floors and (Pittsburgh weather permitting…) also spend time in an outside Catio to soak up the sunshine.

I will tell you all my same spiel I tell everyone else, if you adopt from us. Do not declaw your cat, if the cat is sick- have enough money to take them to the vet. If you ever need me, call me. We talk to you and ask questions ourselves and we know the cats well. If we think it is not going to work out, we will let you know. Everyone who is able and willing, deserves the companionship of a cat. It's an art that we have purfected here! Most of the cats are in the shelter, all in one place. We take you around to the different rooms and then you & yours can go and visit where you want too. Seems simple right? Well, it is! Bring your own carrier just encase you do pick a new BFF. All you have to do is schedule an appointment.

During your visit, feel free to spend time with the cat you want to meet, but also take a look around. We always have cats with a wide variety of ages, coat patterns/lengths, and personalities. High energy antics? You bet. Couch potatoes? Check. Sweet, purring snugglers? Roger that. And please don’t overlook the shy wallflower who keeps glancing your way—introverts need love too. Often times, a cat is simply overwhelmed with their new rescue
environment and will blossom in a calmer home environment.

SOS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our adoption fee, along with donations, allow us to tend to our rescued cats in the manner in which they deserve: fully vetted and fully cared for. We also allocate funds to continue TNR (trap, neuter, and release) efforts for all of the strays who are too unsocialized and human-adverse for an indoor home. By spaying/neutering, these
cats live a healthier life and no longer contribute to increasing the stray cat population.

When you adopt a cat from SOS, you’re doing more than giving a cat a good home. You’re also helping those stray cats who cannot be homed. One cat’s adoption improves multiple cats’ lives.

Email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text Faon(412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.

Your new best friend is waiting for you
