Micah's Story
Survivor from a hoarding situation -

One of our trappers was on her way to trap a cat when she came across a smaller buff cat whose eyes were in bad shape. She stopped to assess the situation, but he wouldn't let her get too close. So, she offered him food and when she looked up, there were about 8-9 cats rushing at her.

Then the homeowner came out and said that these were all strays that she feeds daily. She said none were spayed/neutered and that she was overwhelmed with the number and how it continued to grow and was open to having them spayed/neutered. The trapper offered to drop off cat food on her way home, which she did. When she arrived, there were cats of all ages, some pregnant and it was overwhelming. One cat was in an open carrier and had just given birth to two kittens between the time she first encountered the situation to a few hours later when she dropped off the cat food.

The resident offered to show her the cats and kittens she had in one of her closed bedrooms. There were about 10-11 kittens and a few adults. There were also an estimated 8 plus adults running loose in her home, and about 10 outside. All had upper respiratory infections, most underweight, flea infested. The kittens inside were from mixed litters. The resident warned her that the odor and condition of the room was overwhelming. And it was. Only one lonely litter box, so the cats were going to the bathroom everywhere.

We were horrified and after talking to her, the following day she released to CDC all of the kittens and one of the moms, the other mom took off running and hid somewhere in the house.

They came to us very, very sick. They were under weight, had the worst upper respiratory infections, parasites (roundworm, giardia, and coccidia), and ocular issues. Overall, they were on at least 5 medications to help them get better. And they did! Some unfortunately will have permanent damage to their eyes from the upper respiratory infection. This happens frequently with litters born outside or not taken care of.

There are 9 kittens and one mom, and come to find out, she is not the mom to any of them although she is the best mom we've ever seen. The property owner told us that she had recently had a litter of 3 stillborn kittens and had milk, so she started nursing the other kittens in that room. She nurses all of them even though some are her size. She's constantly grooming them and if one squeals, she quickly goes to check out the situation. Even when we gave them dewormer (and some of you know how messy that can be) she would clean any of the dewormer left on their body. It's such a cute family with all of them playing and sleeping with each other. It's going to be sad splitting them up but that is what needs to happen, we're pretty sure that no one will adopt all 10!

They are happy little monsters running around and playing with each other. They eat together and sleep together. They all seem bonded so if someone would like to adopt a pair, any of them could go with any of the other ones.

All of these kittens need to be adopted to a home with another playful cat or one of their littermates.

Micah:
- medium to long hair Buff boy
- approx. 5 months old
- very sweet and a little shy
- his eyes are a little cloudy, but he can see and you would never know there was an issue because he is able to climb, jump, play, chase, and behave just like any other kitten, and it will not affect his quality of life.
- he and Melody seem to be bonded, and we believe they are from the same litter

If interested, please email Mirna at Mirnabowman.cdc@gmail.com
614-471-9000
Must be 24 or older.
Adoptions to Central Ohio homes only.
All dogs and cats in the home must be spayed/neutered.
Adoption Fee $100.00 for each cat.
