Melanie came to us when a kind community member called us for help. Melanie had wandered up to her home but she has dogs who are not cat friendly and needed to find a place for her to go ASAP.<br/><br/>She is sweet and friendly. She has adjusted easily and quickly to life at the cat cafe.<br/><br/>We first thought she might be pregnant. She was not however we did discover that she's FIV Positive. This is a bit more unusual for an adult female cat as it is mainly seen in unfixed adult males fighting for territory. <br/><br/>The good news is FIV+ cats can live just as long and healthy lives as non positive cats.<br/><br/>Location: Happy Cat Cafe (happycatgr.com)<br/><br/>Medical: Because she is FIV positive, she needs a low stress environment, quality food, exams at least yearly, and proactive veterinary care to ensure she stays healthy. Because she has a compromised immune system, she's not the type of cat that you try the "wait it out" approach if she's sick. Although FIV cats can be more prone to certain medical diseases, they more often than not live completely normal lives compared to their counterparts. As medicine has advanced, we now know that having FIV is not at all a death sentence like it had been treated as previously. These cats live comparable lives to non FIV positive cats and deserve a home and love all the same. We highly recommend finding a veterinarian who is comfortable with and knowledgeable about FIV.
