Meet Muppet the tender & gentle teddy bear's Story
Hello there, friend! Thanks for stopping by!

At Hobbes Haven our mission is to help shape & support a better life for feral & stray cat colonies in our varying communities of the Columbia River Gorge Oregon.

We want to introduce you to Muppet (dont forget to check out his bonded brother Houdini)-

He was rescued with her brother Houdini and 12 other kittens at a site of 40+ feral cats in Parkdale, Oregon at the base of Mt. Hood.

Muppet was first named because of his gorgeous coat and curious face with attentive eyes that were very conscious to follow you around the room- I thought he could be a part of The Muppets cast! This is a very special boy who is very thoughtful, gentle and loving. He has learned to lightly tap your arm or back to get your attention and then talk to you while he makes direct eye contact. When I take naps, I wake up to him snuggling next to my head like an extra warm pillow. He loves being your little spoon and having you hold him tight while you sleep. This big boy likes being brushed and groomed and will follow you around if he knows you have the brush in your hand; he is tolerant of nail clippings and teeth brushing.

This little guy had a hard start to life- not only was he born a feral kitten, but he was directly affected by the bad choices of his caregivers. They caregivers of this particular site wanted to keep him there and not surrender him to our adoption program, because they said he reminded them of a cat they had when their kids were little. Weeks went by between my first visit to this site to rescue my first round of kittens, to the last visit where they volunteered the kitten back to me after saying that their kids had lost interest in that kitten (Muppet) and he was starting to getting hurt by the older cats. When I was finally able to remove him from that feral cat colony, both of his ears had been bitten up, he was missing patches of fur and had a severe URI (upper respiratory infection). He had to be quarantined for over 6 weeks because he ended up contracting ringworm at the feral cat colony, so even after all of the struggling to survive out in the wild, he had to be rescued into a quarantined environment while he listened to the group of healthy rescued kittens enjoy their open room. Throughout this whole time, he remained a very thankful and loving boy, who now enjoys all of the luxuries of being ringworm free like maintaining his gorgeous mane.

Muppet was lucky to have been rescued along side his bonded brother Houdini; they both faced some of the harshest conditions born as feral kittens entering the fall season near the base of Mt. Hood. Due to them being rescued together and tamed for domestication alongside one another, they have endured growth together that has bonded them. Our goal is for Muppet to be adopted with his bonded brother Houdini.

We hope to find families that will keep in touch with Hobbes Haven and update us with pictures and videos of our rescued angels! Remember that many times we have been fostering these kittens for many months, and that is another reason you know Hobbes Haven is a good-hearted organization to support, because our goal is to find the RIGHT homes NOT a home RIGHT NOW.
Here at Hobbes Haven we focus on supporting the health and wellbeing of feral and stray cat colonies via T-N-R-M; during out initial visits to a site, if we encounter kittens or cats young enough or friendly enough to domesticate, we rescue them from those sites and work with them directly to get them healthy and ready for a second chance at a life as a part of a family and a home. Our rescued cats and kittens are unique being that they were born as feral cats, meaning the time it took to domesticate them may have been more involved than others. When you support Hobbes Haven via your adoption and donations, you are helping a bigger ripple effect, because you are supporting existing feral cat colonies stop their cycle of suffering by getting all cats sterilized and vaccinated, but also offering a very rare second chance to a few lucky ones.

At Hobbes Haven, your adoption fee helps us cover this kitten's start-of-life veterinary care at our collaborating veterinary clinic here in the Columbia River Gorge- this is a transparent one to one transaction, absolutely no revenue is made from this.

Up to the point of adoption, Hobbes Haven has covered the following out of pocket: FVRCP vaccines (most of the time 3 out of 3 of the first kitten series), deworming, antifungal bath/s, veterinary treatment for ailments as kittens (URI), food, cat supplies, entertainment etc- this is why your donations matter and help make a difference!
