Meet Max and Gidget - This listing is for two kittens

Max (M) and Gidget (F)
SPECIAL HOME NEEDED

Itty Bitty Kitten Rescue focuses its resources on just that: the ittiest, bittiest kittens. We do this because most shelters and humane societies don't have the capabilities, time, budget or staff to meet the needs of neonatal or weaning kittens. However, occasionally we receive an intake outside of this age group. This is what happened with Max and Gidget's litter. They were eight weeks old and feral; feral doesn't necessarily mean aggressive, it simply means they have not been socialized with humans and therefore fear them. Furthermore, their age at intake meant that important developmental milestones in their kittenhood took place in the wild, away from people, and this conditioning to be fearful of potential threats is unfortunately now hard-wired into their navigation of the world.

I really want to explain the psychology of these kittens so that you can fully understand what they have been through and also appreciate how incredibly far they have come. Both of these kids genuinely like people. They want to be around you. They want to snuggle and purr and have their heads scratched. But they required an exceptional amount of time to trust me enough to let me give them that affection. I've been fortunate enough to have them in my home for 4 months, and, even now, they run away if I walk toward them. Conversely, when I am in the bed or at my desk, established and calm, they meow at me and crawl in my lap or curl up beside me and demonstrate any number of other expected friendly cat behaviors. Gidget especially likes to visit and rub against your legs while you're on the toilet; it's great.

Kate has tried to talk me out of keeping both of these beautiful siblings. They need to stay together, and they need an adopter who understands and accepts their limitations and idiosyncrasies while also celebrating and furthering their journey of learning to trust people: they need a true cat person. They are adoptable—they aren't feral and they aren't antisocial. They just need time and patience from their new family to allow their unique and lovely personalities to shine. If you think you could be the type of family Max and Gidget need, please reach out to us. These guys deserve the best the world has to offer.
