When he was about 6 weeks old, he suddenly began limping and his leg became severely swollen. It was a strange situation because there had been no known injury. X-rays revealed a serious fracture along with an abscess. While we never determined exactly what caused it, it's likely that the abscess weakened the bone and led to the fracture.<br/>Through the UC Davis fracture program, we attempted to repair the leg, but unfortunately it did not heal as expected. After careful consideration, amputation was chosen as the best option for Maverick.<br/><br/>And what a difference it has made.<br/><br/>Today, Maverick is pain-free, active, and gets around amazingly on three legs. He runs, plays, climbs, and keeps up with everyone else without missing a beat. Most importantly, he is one of the sweetest kittens you'll ever meet. He's a nonstop purr machine who loves attention and wants nothing more than to be loved.<br/><br/>Maverick gets along with cats, dogs, and people. He truly has never met a stranger and fits in wherever he goes.<br/><br/>Because he is a special-needs kitten, Maverick will not be available for adoption at PetSmart.
