Maisy ***Special Needs: hyperthyroid***'s Story
Maisy: playful, friendly, and purry 14 yr old who is not too clingy, but loves humans

Maisy's story: I was adopted by my family from MSPCA in Methuen. My sister was an only child for about 4 or 5 years before I came along. It took some time to get to know her, but now we were inseparable for 12 years.

Then, things changed.

In the fall of 2025 my person, my kid human, moved out, so the family decided to find another home for us since our human left. Luckily, I got to stay with my sister, Maisy.

We went to this nice foster at Fitchburg Friends of Felines, and were brought to the vet. My sister was showing signs of sickness, which was pretty serious. She passed in March 2026, so now I don't have my BFF anymore.

And, I am okay. I am not showing that I miss her, but I did get closure, so I think I am doing pretty good, if you ask me!

I was known to sleep back to back with my sister at the old place. In the new space was pretty much the same. We have these pet beds and cat pillows and fluffy things everywhere, so we would rotate it out. We were always in close proximity to each other. Now, I get the whole room to myself!

My sister and I both would play with wand toys at the old place, and on occasion play with mouse toys and balls, but at the new place, I am the wild and crazy one with the toys. My favorite past time at the new place is also sleeping.

My sister was the in your face type. Me, nah. I respect personal space. You can come to me when you are ready for my attention. If you do not, I will call to you so you are reminded to come to me. I am a complete purr baby, which shows you how adorable I am. I am just not pushy like my sister, Cloey.

I am a laid back cuddler (once I get to know you, of course). I used to enjoy laying in front of the sliding door with my sister during the day at the old place with the sun beating down on me in the winter, spring, and fall, but it was a bit warm to do that in the summer. I also had a cat tower near a window which I would also frequent.

In the new space, there is this table in front of the window with a comfy pillow. I enjoy sitting there. It is comfy.

I am vocal when I am hungry, and used to call to my old family for dinner, like clockwork! My new human knows, and I do meow to her, but she already knows it is time for food. I used to get 1/3 of a cup of dry in the AM and 1/3 at night. I also used to get some wet food mixed in at night as well on rare occasion. At the new place, though, they free feed, although I still eat about the same. The bonus is I get wet every night! SCORE!

I used to also live with a Black Lab mix. This lab was one hyper pooch! I would tolerate her, but really could have done without her. Maybe a calmer dog would be more my pace. I have only lived with my sister kitty, but at the new place, other kitties come to visit me on occasion. I am not very thrilled with them, though. I prefer to be the one and only... but my foster mom keeps trying to introduce me to new kitties. I am not aggressive with them. I just have not found one I really like that much.

So, years ago when I went to the vet, I was diagnosed hyperthyroid. The family chose not to treat, and I lost quite a bit of weight. The vet at the new place put me on this stuff that goes in my ear, and I am on some list to get radiation, which is a one and done thing, so hopefully I will be all better after that. I need to get my kidneys tested first, then we will know if I am a candidate for radiation. We will know in a couple months! Cross your fingers for no stuff in my ears anymore!

My ideal home would be in a home with people who will hang out with me and give me attention. Not, like, overly drowning me in attention, but maybe let me sleep by your feed if you are on the bed, or next to you, and maybe let me on your lap and hold me for a bit. I won't be obnoxiously mushy. Maybe a family with a mellow dog, or me as the only pet. Hyper dogs are not my thing! People are TOTALLY my thing!

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions.
