Maia's Story
Meet Maia: The Mother Who Loved Everyone!

Some cats are beautiful. Some cats are incredibly sweet. And then there are cats like Maia—beautiful, affectionate, nurturing, and simply unforgettable.
At approximately 2 years old, Maia is a stunning longhaired dilute tortoiseshell with the personality to match her gorgeous looks. Her name comes from Greek and Roman mythology, where Maia means mother or nurse—and it couldn't be more fitting.

Maia was trapped as part of a TNR project behind a government housing apartment. For several months, a kind Hispanic woman had been feeding her. She affectionately called Maia "Big Mama". By the time she reached out to the shelter for help, it became clear just how busy Maia had been keeping herself.
Maia had given birth to another litter in the woods behind the apartments. Two of her adult daughters from previous litters were also there—and they had kittens of their own. There were three nursing mothers and more than 10 kittens! The night all three moms were trapped, tiny neonatal kittens were discovered tucked into the slats of a wooden pallet. They couldn't simply be left behind.

The two younger mothers were feral, so after being spayed, they returned to their outdoor home. But Maia was different. Maia was extremely friendly. She went into rescue, and her foster began the daunting job of bottle-feeding the tiny kittens. But then something amazing happened. When Maia was introduced to those babies, she immediately went into full Mama mode—grooming them, caring for them, and feeding them. She was reportedly their grandmother. But those babies didn't care about the family tree. They just knew Maia was the best mother in the world. And she was.

And here's the really wonderful part: Maia isn't just an exceptional mother. She's an exceptionally wonderful CAT. She is every bit as sweet and affectionate as she is strikingly beautiful. She loves people, enjoys attention, and has that special nurturing quality that makes you feel like you've known her forever. We simply can't say enough about this beautiful girl. Maia has now been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and other parasites, and tested negative for FeLV/FIV.

After everything she has given to her kittens—and apparently everyone else's kittens, too—it's time for someone to give Maia what she deserves. A warm bed. A safe home. A person who will cherish her. And a lifetime of being loved as much as she loves.

Maia spent her first chapter being a mother and a caretaker. Her next chapter should be about being someone's beloved girl. If you're looking for a beautiful, loving, affectionate cat with a heart as big as her name, Maia may be the one you've been waiting for.

Maia is ready for her forever home.

Please SHARE her story. Somewhere out there is the person who is going to look at Maia and realize, "That's my girl!"
