Luke's Story

Luke
Male grey and white DLH
Estimated age: 5.5 years old

He is getting used to being the center of attention in his foster home which he had not had before. He has lived with a small (11 lb) dog and other cats. A lot of commotion makes him nervous, so he would do best in a house that isn't super loud and busy. He loves pets and will start purring the moment you give him scratches.

He had severe and painful dental disease when he first came into the rescue. He had a dental cleaning and 14 teeth removed, so he is feeling much better now! He still eats hard food with no issues, but loves wet food as well. He has also had bloodwork done. The veterinarian heard a heart murmur during his exam but not while he was under anesthesia, so he likely has a stress-induced murmur. To be extra cautious, he did also have 3-view chest x-rays to rule out lung changes or overall heart enlargment which was thankfully all normal!

Backstory: Luke came from a home where there were over 70 cats living in and around the home! We've been able to help with around 50 cats from this house so far but it has not been an easy task. It started a year and a half ago when a group of volunteers including a veterinarian from a local clinic had been going out to the house to pull cats to slowly chip away at the numbers. They were prioritizing sick cats, moms/kittens, and females who were not spayed as the main goal is to stop the cycle as quickly as possible. We were prioritizing sick cats, moms with kittens, unfixed cats, and babies. Recently we had the help of an amazing local organization so we could bring in 30 cats at a time for vet care and we had a foster available who could take in Luke and a few other cats.

Location: In foster

Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption.

If you are interested in adopting, fill out an application online at www.figandfriendspetrescue.org/adopt

Fig and Friends Pet Rescue's Adoption Policy
~We do not adopt to homes with animals who are not spayed or neutered unless there is a valid reason such as vet recommendation. ~We do check references including landlord if you rent and your vet both past and present. ~We do not adopt to homes that plan on declawing the cat we have adopted out to you or that plan on letting a cat outside (unless on a leash and harness under owner's continued observation). ~If we see something on your application that we are concerned about, we will always try and have a conversation with you to find out the why. We understand you might have declawed a cat in the past or had to rehome an animal. It can happen to anyone. We like to dig deeper and won't deny someone just based on surface information.
