Meet Jaxon (special needs)

Sweet Jaxon's owners are heartbroken to have to rehome him. Please read all of what they wrote about this adorable BIG guy!

Let us introduce you to Jaxon. He is a laid-back, easy-going, bundle of love. If you are looking for a new companion, please take a look at this handsome guy. I think my favorite thing about Jaxon is that he makes every day start out great. As soon as I come downstairs, he is ready with good morning meows and a quick cuddle. The day always begins with knowing Jaxon adores us.
If you work from home, he will hang with you all day. When I worked from home I put a cat bed on a chair next to me or on the table next to my laptop. Jaxon would just curl up and snooze the day away with me. He chirps happily when you reach over and give him the occasional pet. He will bump his head on you if you have ignored him for too long. And he keeps your blood pressure low no matter how challenging your day is. When you pet him, his motor gets going and the purring just brings on the relaxation. His favorite hobby is catching a snooze.
That said, Jaxon is pretty spry for an 8-year old. He firmly believes that age is just a number. He still loves to play with all his toys. And if you pull out a wand toy… he is all in. In our house he knows where the “fun” toys are kept and if you head for the drawer that holds the wands, he gets on the floor and is ready to go. A couple times a week Jaxon invites his imaginary friend over and they will play for a while. He runs and dodges…chasing his invisible buddy. Always good for a laugh. And then there is the mystery of the invisible bug on the wall. We never see it, but Jaxon will work really hard to catch it.
As mentioned above, Jaxon is a bundle of love. To be more precise, he is 17 pounds of love. Like many large cats, he does not want to be held for long periods of time but that does not mean he is not a cuddler. He will let you pet him all day long – he especially loves belly rubs. He also lets us brush him and cut his back toenails (albeit that is a two-man job ?). Jaxon is a little shy when a stranger first comes into the house, but he eventually decides everything is safe and will come out and greet the newcomer. If there is a noisy crowd in the house, he usually will hang out behind the couch until the party is over.
Jaxon has lived his first 8 years with two adults and another cat. Unfortunately, his cat buddy Django passed away this year. It was hard the first few weeks for us and Jaxon. But he has since adjusted to being a solo cat better than we expected. He would do fine as a single pet or in home with multiple animals. We have dog-sat multiple times for small dogs and Jaxon has always been fine with them. Mostly, he just ignores the dogs. The one thing Jaxon does not compromise on is a clean litter box. He expects it to be cleaned every day - He has us trained. Jaxon is an INDOOR ONLY cat and his new family would need to agree to keep him inside. He does not have any front claws and would not do well outside.
I am sure you are wondering to why we are re-homing such a great cat. My mom is elderly and is at the point in her life where she needs more help. She will be staying with us when we move this spring. She has severe bronchial asthma and is allergic to steroids, the only treatment for her asthma. Unfortunately, Jaxon is a trigger for her asthma attacks. We have had to make the hard decision that we need to find a new home for him in order to provide a healthy environment for mom. To make sure he is ready for the change we have brought him up to date on his vaccines. He will not need another round of vaccines until 2024. We also had a blood panel done on him to ensure he did not have any notable issues and the tests came back fine. Finally, we had a urinalysis done and he showed a small amount of blood in his urine. Our veterinarian said it could have been caused by the needle used to collect the sample. Jaxon did have a problem a few years ago and we changed him over to a food to promote urinary tract health in cats and have not noticed him having a problem since. We just want to be up front about this issue with a potential adopter as they will want to keep him on some type of food that keeps him healthy.
Below is a note from our Cat Sitter.
“"My name is Sandra with Home Sweet Home Cat Sitting. I have had the honor of taking care of Jaxon regularly, when his parents would go out of town. I started taking care of him in 2013, when he was only 7 months old.
He has always been a very sweet, friendly, laidback guy. His easygoing attitude made for a very fast friendship when his brother Django was adopted into the family. It was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed each other's company. It's extremely sad how Jaxon has been missing Django since he passed away. Jaxon would make a very loving companion - to humans and hopefully, another cat or 2. I hope he finds the best home out there!"

Come play with me!

Jaxon has had a recent veterinary exam and senior lab testing. He does need to lose weight. Jaxon has a history of blood in his urine, and this will need to be monitored by his new veterinarian. He will need to be on a special diet. His adoption fee includes a test for FeLV/FIV, current vaccines and flea control, and he is microchipped.

When he gets adopted, we will remove this profile, so if you still see him here, he is available. Please submit an application at http://nwac-oregon.org/adoption-application/ to ask specific questions or to arrange a socially distant meeting. You may also send an inquiry via petfinder, but we will likely ask you to fill out the application!
