Helen's Story

Meet Helen! Helen came to us after being found as a stray in rural Freeborn county. We believe Helen was born in October of 2022, and would do best in a calm home, with another feline friend, and children 12+. We are not sure how Helen would feel about a dog in her new home, but if properly introduced, she may do okay with a calmer dog. When Helen first came to us, she was very scared of humans. She has improved since coming to us, but she also has the typical calico kitty tendencies and prefers to interact on her terms only. Given time Helen will come sit near you and allow you to pet her for a bit, and then she will go find a comfy spot to snuggle up with a feline friend. She is a beautiful gal that also enjoys bird watching if she isn't cuddled up with friends!

All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org

When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition.

Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed.

If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only.

If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Humane Society of Freeborn County's Adoption Policy
Visit our website ( freeborncountyhs.org ) to see all of our adoptable animals and complete an adoption application before scheduling a visit. Enter the pet's name you wish to adopt on the application in the space provided. If you leave the pet name blank on your application will still be processed but any approval would be considered "tentatively approved" and may not be considered for all pets. Please consider this if you are traveling a distance. After you submit the completed application, shelter management will process the application, research references, vetting history, and provide you with an adoption status of approved, tentatively approved, or denied. All members of the household are encouraged to come in and meet any and all animals being considered for adoption, including your four-legged household members ( not cats ), to ensure that the new pet is compatible. The average wait time to process an application varies per applicant and animal, it is typically two days but could be up to one week. When your application is approved, schedule your visit to our shelter, if all goes well with your meet and greet you will then pay the adoption fee for your new companion animal. The Humane Society of Freeborn County prefers adoption fees be paid with credit or debit cards. Please bring a leash for dogs or a secure companion animal carrier for cats, and kittens. Enjoy your new companion animal. If you have any problems or questions, please give us a call or text immediately. Thank you for giving one of our furry friends a second chance.
