Meet Gordon

Approx age: 6-8 years old

Gordon was found as a stray on the streets of Harrisburg City as an intact male who the outside world had clearly not treated so kind, which is extremely common amongst unaltered males. He had confirmed placement with a rescue, however at neuter, he tested FIV positive, and due to that, the confirmed rescue could not take him.

If you want to stop reading now because you see the term "FIV positive", please do not. In the next few weeks we will be trying to break down some myths and misconceptions over this virus while highlighting some of our amazing "positive" kids.

Over the last several years, so much new information has been discovered about this virus in cats. Just like in human medicine where things are constantly evolving and advancing, same is true in veterinary medicine. This virus is far from the death sentence it was once believed. What it means is that over time these cats experience slowly weakening immune systems which can later in life can allow them to be more vulnerable to other feline infections. Hundreds of thousands of humans live long healthy lives with weakened immune systems, and the same goes for cats. If they are cared for properly, kept indoors, fed good food and receive good vet care, just as any cat should, many of these cats can and do live as long as any FIV negative cats.

Now, back to Gordon. Gordon started out in his foster home a quiet and reserved gentleman. However, it didn't take him long to break out of his shell and make himself right at home. He is a great lap sitter (add a fuzzy blanket and he simply won't be able to resist). When not on your lap you can find him napping on the couch or watching the world go by out the window. Although he can be quite a laid back couch potato, he also knows how to have a good time. This handsome guy is good at entertaining himself and can turn anything into a new toy. A candy wrapper, a piece of string, or even a rubix cube, any of these things can quickly become his new favorite toy. Gordon has befriended the children in his foster home and would likely prefer a home with older children. He doesn’t live with any feline friends currently but may like an easy going laid back friend given the proper adjustment time.

If you have room in your heart (and lap), give this guy a chance, you won’t be disappointed by his loving and quirky nature.

All cats are vaccinated, dewormed, treated with flea preventative, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

Adoption application, phone interview, home visit, and adoption fee required (+ PA Sales tax). Adoption fees are:
Baby (Kittens up to 1 year) = $125
Young & Adult (1-7 years) = $100
Seniors (8+ years) = $80

Please read our Core Values prior to applying at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com/adopt/our-expectations.

If you are interested in adopting a cat(s), we ask that you complete an on-line adoption application to get the process started. To apply, simply go to www.furryfriendsnetwork.com / Adopt a Furry Friend / Adoption Application. You will receive a welcome email once your application has been assigned to a volunteer processor (this should be within 72 hours of submitting an application). If you do not receive such an email, contact catapplication@furryfriendsnetwork.com. Once your application has been processed (this can take approx. 10-14 days), we will arrange contact with the foster to schedule a time to meet cats you might be interested in. We are an all-volunteer organization and appreciate your patience during this process.
