Gidget's Story

Gidget (about 9 months old as of 3/13/2026) is a spayed female black (with salt and pepper!) long haired kitten. Gidget was trapped with her littermates as a newly weaned kitten hiding under a deck in Waukegan. They were a little feral but tamed up nicely and now only know life as pampered indoor kitties. Gidget like many kittens struggled with severe diarrhea when she was newly weaned and being fed proper kitten food for the first time and as a result had to be medicated quite a bit during the key socialization period when she needed to be learning to not be a feral kitten that hides under decks. While this didn't stop her from learning to love people she's a little less trusting than her brother and she likes to be more careful about how she interacts with people. She's a little slower to trust a new face, she usually chooses to cuddle up by your feet, and is most comfortable when her humans are too preoccupied to possibly be planning to medicate her- when you're stuck in the bathroom it's Gidget's time to shine! Though she isn't always the biggest fan of being picked up because of the medication mistrust she still loves to be pet and especially get her chin and cheeks scratched. She does well with other cats and because she's a typical playful kitten we think she'd do best adopted alongside her brother Max or as a little sister to an existing playful kitty. She hasn't lived with dogs but it's possible she could learn to love a cat-experienced dog. Because Gidget is a little more shy and sensitive she wouldn't be our first choice for families with small children.
