Meet Freddie

This is going to be a little sad because thier mom passed away, but these cats need hope... so we want to build thier post with LOVE and CARE.

These three cats outlived thier loving mom. She was placed in hospice, last week, and family found a note left with her important papers that names QoL.

She declined very rapidly and passed away, yesterday morning. We are told that she had always rescued animals. They just seemed to find her and she alway seemed to find a way to help them. So much of what the family told us sounded all too familiar. This sweet woman rescued sisters Nosey and Ewok as kittens, adopting them from a high kill shelter. And Freddie Mercury was saved from her own engine compartment 5 years ago... just a wee baby. As they told us she had as many as 9 cats in recent years, we looked heavenward and thanked her OUT LOUD for allowing her numbers to dwindle... and we are sure she chuckled to herself, up there!

These cats need a solution soon. They need some vetting updated and foster to adopt or foster home(s). We want to keep the sisters together (they are 13+ yrs old) and Freddie should be OK to be separated. The cats are living indoor/outdoor and family is caring for them each day. They would need a brief quarantine period until veterinary care can be established.

Before anyone asks why the family isn't taking the cats... we wanted to remind everyone what it's like to love an animal angel, like miss Marylin was. Anyone that knows an animal angel will attest to this:

You will FOREVER have a few more animals than you would have had if you DIDN'T know them.

Animal lovers trip over animals in need. That creates an animal rescuer.

When you keep tripping over animals, you have to start finding them good homes. This creates a ripple effect and... before you know it...

You are a cat pusher.

Marylin was probably part of that club. We certainly are... Heehee

As you may have guessed... Marylin's family has a house full of animals (and kids) already. They have adopted many animals from their mom over the years... they just don't have room and we completely understand. While we don't recall having ever met miss Marylin (in person)... we have absolutely made this promise more than a time, or two! We can't imagine not honoring this commitment.

How completely humbling. This is a moment, in life, that we are gifted an acknowledgment that what we are doing MATTERS. We are reminded of the very raw reality that our rescue work demands that it also become a ministry to lift up other animal angels.

We were moved to tears when we read this letter. We debated on whether to share it and decided that it feels important. It feels important because this little post-it note was a blanket. We imagine that it had to be secured with tape over time (we all know how the adhesive on those things gets tired after a couple years). Each time this aging angel would worry about her beloved cats, she would reflect on that promise. She would, perhaps, add a piece of Scotch tape. She would remember the conversation she had with us and rest assured that the cats would be cared for. That's how a post-it note can become a blanket. She knew they were covered. She had a plan and we do not take this duty lightly.

Today, we went out to miss Marylin's house and met her cats. We talked to the family for a little while and got some pictures of the the cats. There is no one living there to look after the cats and they need to close up the house. We will be listing all three cats in our software this evening. They should export by tomorrow. We are calling all animal angels. Who can foster a cat or two?

In closing... allow me a moment to set aside "we" and just be "me" (Aspen) for a minute. I drop the plural POV so that I may take this opportunity to acknowledge all of the people that follow our work, foster for our rescue, attend adoption events, mend our animals (the vets), share our posts, donate to our effort, stop traffic for an orphan and ESPECIALLY those that would use thier office as a nursery and thier bathroom as a kennel. Some of our volunteers work full time jobs, foster animals AND care for their own pets/family. This is huge, ya'll!

I drop the plural point of view to tell ya'll from my HEART: it might be my name on that note... but it's written with the strength of our entire village. It may have been "Aspen" making promises on the phone that day but I am here to remind anyone that's listening...

I can only make promises because Quality of Life Rehab & Foster, Inc. has grown into an amazing platform that can move mountains to help animals. I stand in awe of the networking and energy work that I see in our village! And may I add... I am so proud of everyone that follows our page. This is a safe and supportive environment. We can post about controversial cases without a murmur of negativity. It has been such a completely beautiful thing to watch grow, these past few years. Thank you to our collective village! We can make promises because we know we have your complete support!!
