Fred's Story

Sixteen-month-old Fred only knows shelter life. When CAWL rescued this shy but friendly orange and white guy in August 2025, he was just a four-month-old kitten. We never dreamed Fred would still be with us over one year later.

He tends to act slightly on the shy side with strangers or when approached closely, but his curiosity and friendliness wins over his shyness most times (because he really does love being pet).

Why we love Fred:
His beautiful russet-colored orange and white fur is so soft!
Those amber eyes are intense.
He can sometimes be kind of a funny wild child (like Fred Weasley maybe?). He hangs by all four paws on the screen part of the door to his room as his way of greeting us.
His ear was tipped when he was neutered, and this gives him character.
He gets along well with every cat (male or female) who comes into his room, and he greets his fellow feline roommates with gentle head bumps.

Our sweet boy deserves to finally experience the love of a family and the freedom to run and play in a home. With proper acclimation and transition, we believe Fred will do well in a home with other cats and/or children.

Please help us spread the word to find Fred his forever!

Calvert Animal Welfare League - CAWL's Adoption Policy
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING ADOPTING AND SAVING A LIFE! We are accepting applications by email and in person at our adoption center. We are only open to the public on Saturdays from 11-3, otherwise by appointment. As much as we like to personally meet all of our applicants prior to filling out an application, we are asking that you give us as much information about you, your family, and other pets so that we can make the best match. We will then set up a time for you to meet the animal you are interested in as well as give us the opportunity to meet you and your family. All of our animals are placed in the best fit home for them, never on a first come first serve basis. Completion of an application does not guarantee approval for that particular animal. We reserve the right to approve or deny any application based on the animal’s needs. Our adoption process includes a home visit. *note: In certain circumstances and in lieu of a home visit, we will ask for specific pictures of your home. You will be contacted if you have been selected to complete the adoption process.
