Damon's Story

Rochester, NY -

I believe in miracles and this cat was waiting for help. Damon's backstory is one that will hurt your heart. We believe she was left behind from a human and forged on the street. We also know she was living in a hole that lead to a basement area.

She was mauled by a aggressive dog and her tail was hanging by 1 cm. The landlord saw her coming and going and closed up the hole. He never checked on to find out if she was in the basement before he filled in the gap. He then left to go on vacation for two weeks. This cat had no food and water for at least that long. She was suffering from her tail hanging by 1 cm. She had on a flea collar and by the time she was found by the landlord (who was rehabbing his apartment) the flea collar looked like a necklace - she had lost so much weight.

The landlord asked his friend to help him get the cat out of his basement. His excuse was he was afraid of cats. She in turned called every rescue group and two large humane societies in Rochester, NY who never returned the call/email. She mentioned the cat smelled sick in all of her contact information.

Duffy's Friends loaned her a trap to set and the woman told us she had no where to take her. We sent her to emergency and the vet was kind. She performed the surgery to remove the tail and hoped she would make it. She weighed 6 lbs.

Current situation as of April 26, 2026:
She was named Damon and that means strength and she is 3 weeks pass the amputation of her tail. Her stitches are out and she was healthy enough last week to allow vaccinations. She is tested negative for both feline diseases and has rabies and distemper vaccinations onboard.

She is a very soulful cat and loves to be held and loved. She has gained one pound and looks good, with more weight to follow. She is no drama and has a personality of composure, love and big eyes. She is thankful she is alive and so are we.

She will be spayed on May 13th and because she is black - she could wait 6 months for a home. If color is not your first decision, and personality and kindness from a cat is, then this is a wonderful example of a cat that will steal your heart. She was put on this world to help someone, she has soul.

Our adoption fee is $150.00 for a completely vetted feline and if you want to learn more please email us at duffysfriends@gmail.com or go to our website and fill out an online application at the following link:
https://duffysfriends.org

Cats are great companions and this one is very special.

Duffy's Friends Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Duffy's Friends adoption process: We believe in matching pets to families and we accept applications. We review the application and if we think it's a match we will call you immediately. We do not ship dogs long distances so the home must be within driving distance of Rochester, New York. We do require a fenced yard with physical fencing on all sides that is in good shape and connected. No electric fence or boundary training. Children should be 12 years old minimum if they are living in the home with our pet. A long history of owning a dog in your name is very important. Finally, homeownership is a must and we do validate this information by reviewing the tax roles to find the owner of the property. We can not adopt to apartments, condos, or townhomes due to the fenced yard requirement. Dogs under 6 lbs will be considered for a no fenced lifestyle.
