Meet Cyrus

Cyrus is a BIG quirky boy who is looking for his forever home! He is a very interactive cat who loves to watch birds, play with his interactive toys, and chase the laser pointer like a madman. When he is not looking out the window, he likes to sit on his cat tower next to his foster’s work desk. He likes to sleep with you and will intentionally get up from napping somewhere else to go to bed with you. He does like hand-play and will occasionally play-bite (though the foster is trying to break this habit) so he would do best with an experienced cat owner without little kids. Given a slow introduction he can get along with other cats, so long as the other cat is friendly (though he may prefer to be an only cat). Some of his other fun quirks include the fact he occasionally likes to suck on his toe and make biscuits, and he feels the need to peel tape off boxes and other things.

Cyrus has a bite of history that we want to be upfront about. He originally came to us in March 2023 after being surrendered due to urgent medical needs. He was about to be put down due to a urinary blockage when he was only two years old. ANBAR took over his care and got him the treatment he needed, which included staying at the vet for 3 days with a catheter while they broke up the blockage. During this time, he was a perfect gentleman to the staff, despite his obvious discomfort. The cause of the blockage was unknown, so he was prescribed urinary care food to prevent it from happening again. He has been doing fantastic on the food, so it's important to keep him on it.

For the first few adoption events Cyrus did great, but eventually he got overwhelmed and decided he DID NOT like adoption events. He would growl and reach out through the cage to grab people as they passed by (but he never used his claws.) We stopped bringing him to events, but through actively posting him online we managed to find him a home later that year.

Now this is where things get a bit strange. Sirius was returned to us due to unexplained aggression almost half a year later. He was acting a bit funny (itchy and growling), so the owner took him to the vet to make sure nothing was wrong. Cyrus ended up lashing out at the vet and he was PISSED. Luckily, this vet was actually one of the vets who originally treated Cyrus for his blockage and recognized him and was completely baffled by his behavior. The owner was unwilling to take him back and he ended up being returned to the rescue through the vet. No medical cause was found for his outburst, and after about a week he returned to his normal self in the foster home.

We really have no idea what caused his outburst. We do know Cyrus has a tendency to stand his ground and can be moody when in a new home, but we do know that the previous owner took him to Vegas with a harness and he was just fine then.

Due to this we think he would do best in a home without small kids and with an experienced cat owner who is looking for a quirky cat. Basically, we need someone who is willing to give him the chance he deserves. He likely will be upset for a while upon moving to a new home, but he really is a fantastic (if unusual) cat who will crack you up with his antics. He will send conflicting singles at first, such as growing and requesting pets at the same time, however once he is comfortable and familiar, he is an easy-going cat who just wants to hang out with you.

Due to his history and personality, we decided it was best to have potential adopters meet Cyrus at his foster home, where he is most comfortable. This means he will not be at any of our adoption events. Anyone interested in visiting Cyrus at the foster or has questions please reach out!
