Meet Coconut

Coconut came to us from Save Grayson County Cats. She was rescued from a life on the streets and found to be positive for feline leukemia. With feline leukemia, Coconut could not cohabitate with other kitties that were not feline leukemia positive. She was pretty isolated and didn't get the interaction she craved. Save Grayson County Cats jumped at the chance to get her to ARC when they heard we had space, now she is enjoying a room dedicated to feline leukemia kitties, two awesome roommates (Riley and Turbo) and much more time with humans!

She was pretty shy and reserved when she first got to ARC. However, it didn't take long for her to learn the routines, people and get to know her roommates. Now she is friends with her roommates, enjoys head boops and rubs with them and will solicit pets and boops from humans she encounters! She loves attention and would be a great companion!

Coconut got to meet a young boy, who is very well-behaved and versed in kitty interactions, and fell in love with him immediately (and vice versa!). She did so well while he pet her and talked to her and they both loved the interaction. We think she would do very well with children who were supervised and respectful. She is a super sweet girl who would love to have a family to call her own!

Coconut is marked as "special needs" because she is positive for the feline leukemia virus (FeLV). This does NOT impact her lovingness, playfulness or adoptability, as you can see she is a healthy girl! However, she should go to a home with either no other cats or a home with other FeLV positive cats. There is a lot of information on the internet about FeLV, but not all of it is accurate or up to date. To learn more, we recommend starting with the Alley Cat Allies white papers to veterinarians FeLV Fact Sheet: https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feline-leukemia-virus-felv/.

Coconut is very social, so consider her along with one of her roommates (Riley or Turbo). Ready to make her a new member of your family? Please fill out an adoption form from our website animalrefugecenter.org or hit the inquiry button and we'll be in touch!
