Cheddar Broccoli Casserole & Black Onyx's Story

I never thought I would have the opportunity to write my own bio to help find my forever home, but this rescue gave me a second chance at the life I deserve and I am so grateful!

My name is Black Onyx (black, male, 1yo) and I was found laying in the middle of the street, actively dying and freezing to death on one of the coldest days this winter while my best friend in the entire world, Cheddar Broccoli Casserole (tabby, male, 2yo), watched in defeat. I laid there for hours with people passing by me thinking I was dead, until a kind person came and scooped me up to save me.

Not only did they pick me up, but they made sure to grab my friend who just wouldn't leave my side while I laid there. I was warmed up and saved, but my story doesn’t end there. I went to the vet where I was found to be double FIV and FeLV positive. My friend, Cheddar, is also FeLV positive.

Life seems so unfair that I was finally so close to finding my forever home only to be given the diagnosis that my lifespan will be shorter than other cats. My wonderful foster mom tells me that I will still get a lifetime full of love and happiness with my friend, I just hope I can find a home soon so I can get to that!

We are very sweet boys, but a little shy at first. We will give you plenty of purrs and love once we are comfortable with you. We both do love to play and live life to the fullest, we are sweet and gentle. We are fully vetted and PCR tested positive for FeLV, so we would need to be in a home with no other cats or with other FeLV positive cats. We also live around dogs and are not contagious to them. Please just give us a chance and we promise that we will return all the love you give to us tenfold!

This bonded pair is looking for either a foster home or an adoptive home. They are currently in a temporary foster home. If you are interested in meeting them, please submit an application here: https://airtable.com/apph147Ocb1OqwMU3/shrASIF0R2OtkjxWD

Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Animal House of South East Michigan, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment. Our adoption fees are as follows: $155 for a single cat or kitten $195 for a pair of cats or kittens Please note that we do not do same day adoptions and all adoption fees are non-refundable. AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the "foster period." We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We are also flexible if more time is needed to determine if its the right fit. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
