Meet Chance. <br/><br/>If ever there was a cat who lived up to her name, it's Chance.<br/><br/>For years, Chance was thought to be a stray.<br/><br/>A kind woman fed her faithfully for nearly three years, making sure she had food, water, and someone looking out for her. But when concerns grew about her health, help was sought-and that's when her incredible story came to light.<br/><br/>Chance wasn't a stray at all.<br/><br/>She was a house cat.<br/><br/>Five years ago, she escaped a house fire and somehow survived on her own, enduring scorching Las Vegas summers and everything in between. Through it all, she carried on.<br/><br/>But survival came at a cost.<br/><br/>When she was finally trapped and examined, it became clear that Chance was suffering from severe dental disease and living with significant pain. Her coat was matted and neglected. Her beautiful buff-and-white fur had to be shaved in places to remove painful mats, leaving her with a rather unfortunate haircut that we're pretty sure she'd like us to stop mentioning. <br/><br/>Then life took another heartbreaking turn.<br/><br/>The family caring for Chance experienced an unimaginable tragedy and simply could not continue to provide the support she needed. With nowhere else to go, Chance's future became uncertain.<br/><br/>That's when she came to Homeward Bound.<br/><br/>And we made her a promise.<br/>No more suffering.<br/>No more wondering where her next meal would come from.<br/>No more surviving.<br/><br/>When Chance arrived, we immediately scheduled the veterinary care she desperately needed. Thanks to our veterinary partners, her painful dental disease has been addressed, and today she is feeling so much better.<br/><br/>The funny haircut remains.<br/><br/>The pain does not. <br/><br/>And here's what we've discovered about Chance:<br/> She loves laps.<br/> She loves snuggles.<br/> She loves conversation (especially in her adorable smoker's-voice meow).<br/> She's litter box trained.<br/> She's a bit of an introvert.<br/> And after everything she's endured, she still chooses love.<br/><br/>Five years outdoors didn't harden her heart.<br/>It just made her appreciate comfort even more.<br/><br/>Today, Chance is safe. She is cared for. She is loved.
