Meet Cane

My name is Cane! Foster mom said you wanted some more info about me? I can help you with that!

A few months ago I was hobbling along, minding my own business. I have one funky back leg, you see. But it sure doesn’t slow me down. Then, I caught a whiff of something amazing...chicken? No...ham? No...tuna? No...it was sardines. I wasn’t about to turn down the chance to get some of that wonderful deliciousness for dinner. I used my bloodhound nose to track it down. I got closer, and closer, and closer, and FWAP! A trap door closed behind me! I’d been tricked!!

I wasn’t thrilled, I can tell you that much. I’d heard horror stories about people who trapped cats. Apparently they will catch you and...take you somewhere to remove your testicles. And apparently there’s some kind of doctor who gets PAID to do that? These people are psychos, I’m telling you.

Just as I predicted, one second I was awake in the trap, and the next I was awake in the trap minus my two precious jewels. Sigh. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, honestly. But what about my dignity?!

For a little while, I glared at Foster Mom from afar when she came to clean out my kennel. She needed to pay for what she had done to me. I never hissed or anything, I’m not THAT kind of guy. But I glared.

Despite that, she kept bringing me food...it’s like she knew I loved food. How did she know?! It took a couple of weeks, but finally I decided she had enough. One night when she brought me food, I meowed at her. “Pet me,” I said. Apparently she speaks cat, because sure enough, she reached right in and pet me. It was awesome.

Since then, I’ve been living the indoor life! I have to tell you, it’s great! Instead of hobbling away from the dangers of the outdoors, I hobble to the food bowl, hobble up the cat tree, and hobble up to Foster Mom for some lovin’s. She gives the best head and butt scritches. I could snuggle on the bed with her, the other cats, and the dogs all day.

Foster Mom named me “Cane” for my funky leg...because I would walk with a cane if I was human. She thinks she’s funny. I’ll forgive her in return for more head scritches. My leg doesn’t hurt me or anything, it just kinda bends a weird direction and doesn’t work like the other one. I walk and jump around just fine!

What foster mom has to say about me: “Cane surprised us by being the sweetest boy! We originally trapped him to see if there was anything we could do for his leg. X-rays showed that his patella (kneecap) is medially luxated (displaced towards the inside of his leg). It must have happened a while ago, because the muscles and other tissues healed around the kneecap where it is, fixing it into place. He can’t fully extend his leg, but it doesn’t seem to hurt him at all! When we found out it was fine the way it is, we were going to release him back into his colony...but it just didn’t seem right to release this hobbly dude back outside. Luckily, he agreed, and showed us that he wanted to be a wonderful indoor cat! He absolutely LOVES attention and affection, and will meow at you for some face and butt rubs. If you’re looking for a lap cat, he might be perfect for you. Cane is also great with other cats. He even puts up with being sassed by some spicy female cats he lives with! He’s exceptionally tolerant of our dogs, despite not being around them that much. Every day he shows us how thankful he is that we gave him a chance. He’d be an awesome fit for any home!”

Cane’s adoption fee is $95, which helps our rescue cover the cost of his neuter, microchip, FeLV/FIV test (he is negative), vaccines, dewormings, and flea treatment. Please go to https://orphanpawsproject.wixsite.com/mysite/adoption-application to apply to meet/adopt this wonderful guy!
