Meet Callie

Callie is an ultra sweet, affectionate, spunky 12-year-old lap cat looking for a special forever home to live out her golden years in comfort and cuddly companionship.

Callie is a confident, curious, social, scruffy, tough-as-nails little scrap of a cat. In spite of her advanced age, she has an incredible zest for life. She spent the first eleven years of her life living in an unheated garage in rural Minnesota, which resulted in frostbitten ears. Perhaps because of this experience, she is especially appreciative of warm laps and plentiful food. Her favorite spot is on her foster's lap, interrupted only by joyfully frequent visits to her food bowl. She is a wonderful companion - content to hang out in a lap as long possible, nap in close proximity, or, if her person absolutely has to disassemble the "lap bed," she likes to follow at a close distance and stick her little busybody nose in whatever business that seems to have taken precedence over cuddling with her. Callie makes cute little cooing sounds and has a raspy little meow that sounds like a dinosaur mating call - making for entertaining conversations. Her most expressive feature, however, is her big golden eyes, which are absolutely beautiful and so soulful - filled with the knowledge and experience of a long, difficult life. Callie's forever family should know that making eye contact with her is an invitation to receive kisses. Leave your personal space issues at the door, please. Callie loves licking your face, hands, elbows, knees or any other part of you that she can access... she's got a lot of love to give and deserves a forever family that will appreciate her showers of affection.

Callie loves sitting in laps first and foremost. Close behind is eating. This teeny girl downs 4-6 cans of wet food a day and still maintains a slim figure. She is quite the nosy busybody and will follow her people around if they are not seated. Her family should be sure-footed as she is sometimes so eager to be connected that she gets underfoot and becomes a tripping hazard. Again in spite of her age, Callie still enjoys playing and gets enjoyment out of cardboard scratchers and chasing balls in particular.

Callie is so easygoing. She is a medium- to low-energy kitty. She can be independent if needed but loves to spend time with her people - preferably on them but also close by if they happen to actually have to get something done. The hard life she has lived is evident in her dry skin and patchy fur, but she loves being brushed - rewarded by exuberant purring that evolves into cute little snores - and requires daily brushing to prevent matting. The beauty of this lovely girl's joyful personality quickly transforms any first impressions of physical imperfection.

Callie currently lives in a 900-square-foot home with 3 other foster cats. She gets along with cats and most likely respectful dogs too, although she hasn't been introduced to dogs ... but she is such an attention hog (!) that her foster mom thinks she would be happiest as a single cat, soaking up every last drop of love and attention.

Callie's ideal home would be one in which there would be people around pretty much all the time. She is very social and would suffer being home alone for long periods. Because of the tripping hazard she poses, she should not be in a home with very young kids or anyone with mobility issues. Callie would enjoy a home with big windows and lots of places to lounge and perhaps even the opportunity to safely explore the outdoors in a supervised fashion. Jumping is something she does cautiously so a home without a lot of stairs would be best for her, given her age.

Callie has a chronic sinus infection which requires administering a daily pill that costs approximately $15 a month. She has also lost all her teeth and only eats wet food ... lots of it, which is definitely more costly than a dry food diet. Because of her advanced age and some inconclusive laboratory results, Callie will need to be seen at least twice a year by her vet to help monitor her health and sustain her currently high quality of life.

Callie is the sweetest little soul, and her foster mom is determined to find the perfect family to spoil her rotten through her golden years. Callie will reward her forever family with boundless joy, laughter, and unconditional love.

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best estimate.
